Last Updated: 2024/11/09, Recently, researchers at Harbin Institute of Technology have made gratifying progress in the production of single-cell protein feed from waste potato dregs. The researchers not only screened out the excellent strain combination for producing cell protein, but also designed and formulated a complete technological route for the production of single-cell protein feed from potato dregs. The production of cellular protein by liquid fermentation by adding juice to potato dregs is proposed and applied for the first time at home and abroad. The production of cellular protein by liquid fermentation by adding juice to potato dregs is proposed and applied for the first time at home and abroad.

China produces more than 7000 million tons of potatoes annually and processes more than 3.4 million tons of starch surplus potato dregs. Potato dregs are rich in cellulose, hemicellulose and crude protein, with complete amino acid components, and the content of crude protein in bacterial protein is as high as 40%-50%. It has a good effect on promoting the growth of livestock and poultry, and its biological value is better than that of plant protein feed. Due to the lack of scientific and effective treatment technology, a large number of potato dregs resources can not be used effectively, and the potato dregs and sewage produced in the process of starch production are discharged arbitrarily, which also causes serious pollution to the environment.

With the support of the National Natural Science Foundation and the Science and Technology support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Yang Qian, a professor at the Institute of Biological Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology, has led the research group to carry out the preliminary research work on the production of single-cell protein feed from potato dregs since 2004. They used waste potato dregs during potato starch processing as the main raw material, used yeast to prepare bacterial agents, screened the combination scheme of producing single-cell protein strains, and successively obtained 8 high-efficiency strains suitable for the production of single-cell protein. The optimum fermentation conditions for the production of single-cell protein were determined through pilot-scale experiments, and a complete process for the production of single-cell protein feed from potato dregs was developed. The products have been tested by authoritative departments to fully meet the relevant requirements, which has laid a solid foundation for the industrialization of achievements.

At present, this research result has applied for two national @ # @ 78 potato processing enterprises, and signed cooperation agreements with several large potato processing enterprises. The prospect of industrialization is optimistic.
