How to castrate the sheep
Male lambs that are not used for breeding should be castrated 2-3 weeks after birth. There are generally four ways to castrate sheep:
1. Surgical excision
During the operation, the male lamb is half-leaned and half-squatted on the wooden bench, squeeze the sheep's testicles to the bottom of its scrotum with his left hand, and do everything at the bottom of the sheep's scrotum with a sterilized scalpel in his right hand. the length of the incision is to squeeze out the testicles on both sides gently, tearing off the spermatic cord. You can also cut under the side of the scrotum of the sheep, squeeze out one side of the testes and cut the mediastinum of the scrotum from the inside, then squeeze out the other side of the testicles, and then disinfect the wound with iodine tincture or sprinkle it with sulfa powder to allow it to heal itself.
2. Ligation method
First squeeze the testicles of the male lamb to the bottom of the scrotum, and then fasten the upper part of the scrotum tightly with a rubber band or string to block blood flow. After 10 to 15 days, the testis and scrotum atrophied and fell off. This method is simple and easy, no bleeding and no infection.
3. Castration clamp method
Use a special ovariectomized forceps to clip the spermatic cord in the upper part of the scrotum of the male lamb, and the testicles gradually atrophy. This method is fast and effective, but the operator should have some experience.
4. Drug castration
The operator squeezed the testes of the male lamb to the bottom of the scrotum in one hand and disinfected the top of the scrotum corresponding to the testes. In the other hand, he took a syringe with Xiaodi injection, and in the other hand, the needle was injected parallel to the long diameter direction of the testis from the top of the testis and into the parenchyma of the testes. The needle was injected slowly when it reached the third point under the testis. Withdraw the needle while injecting, so that the liquid stays in 3 places in the testes. The other testicular injection was done according to the same method. The testes of male lambs are swollen after injection, so do not squeeze to prevent drug spillover. The injection volume of the drug is 0.5 ml / mouse, and it is best to use No. 9 needle when injecting.
