Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Dislocation of the hip joint in cattle is very difficult to repair, and most veterinarians regard it as an incurable disease. It is reported that we have successfully repaired a typical dislocation of the hip joint in cattle as follows: Jiejin Baojia, Shangfan Village, Changqiao Township, Guangchang County, a 3-year-old yellow cow. Principal complaint: the cow was tied up for grazing on the road not far from the village on the morning of April 20, 2001. when it went to change the pasture in the afternoon, it was found that the cow had fallen on the side of the road and could not stand. Dislocation of the hip joint in cattle is very difficult to repair, and most veterinarians regard it as an incurable disease. The successful repair of a typical dislocation of the hip joint in cattle is reported as follows:

Shangfan Village, Changqiao Township, Guangchang County, Jiejin Baojia, a 3-year-old yellow cow. Principal complaint: the cow was tied up for grazing on the road not far from the village on the morning of April 20, 2001. when it went to change the pasture in the afternoon, it was found that the cow had fallen on the side of the road and could not stand. When we learned about it, we rushed to the scene.

1 diagnosis

Several people picked up the sick cow, the hind legs showed mixed claudication, took a short walk in front, the hip joint of the left hind limb was not active enough, there was a depression under the hip joint, the step was slow and weak, it was difficult to retreat, and it was difficult to stand on the tip of the hoof, which was located slightly in front of it. there is pain in palpation of the hip joint of the diseased limb. Dislocation of the hip can be diagnosed.

2Surgical reconstruction

2.1 the diseased limbs of Baoding cattle are placed on the upper side, and the three healthy limbs of the cattle are tied together with rope to ensure the safety of the operators.

2.2 Local anesthesia 2% procaine 20mL was injected into the articular cavity of the affected area for local anesthesia.

2.3 at the beginning of the operation, we grabbed the diseased limb with three people and tried to pull the hip joint back and push it up to restore it, but the hindquarters could not be completed because of the fullness of the muscle. Later, the hammering method was used and it was successfully reset.

The specific method is: use a miscellaneous wood stick about 130cm, wrap the upper hoof of the diseased limb with rag, put it into the stick and tie it up with hemp rope, and straighten the diseased limb forward. The performer crouched on the belly of the cow, holding the diseased limb, and the assistant hammered the top of the stick with a wooden hammer, from light to heavy, twice. The operator then puts his left hand into the inside of the leg to push the upper end of the femur from the bottom to the top, and the right hand presses the lower end of the knee femur from top to bottom. When the assistant hammers and pulls open the dislocation, he hears a "click tower" sound, that is, the hip joint has been restored to its original position. After reduction, two needles were inserted at the lower edge of the hip joint and the anterior and posterior femur with a depth of 6-7cm. After the needle, rub hard on the affected area with 100-150mL of spirits.

3 treatment with traditional Chinese medicine

Papaya 40g, Niu Qi 40g, rhubarb 40g, Atractylodes macrocephala 30g, Fructus Aurantii 30g, Chuanxiong 30g, peach kernel 30g, Fangji 30g, Aristolochia manshuriensis 30g, safflower 40g, licorice 40g, liquor 200mL as introduction.

4Nursing

Stop the use of labor, strengthen care, and prevent random movements. The cow returned to health within a week and began to work at the weekend.

5 Analysis and summary

5.1 during the restoration, the cow first pulled the diseased limb by hand, which was very difficult to pull, because the muscle of the part was plump and the hindquarters moved along with it, so it did not work; we solved the above problems by hammering. The hammering method can be used to focus on one point. The weight and number of hammering should be directed by the operator, do not hit indiscriminately.

5.2 the dislocated femur of the cow is medial, and this method is effective. If the femur is prolapsed outward, the operator should use the left hand on the outside of the diseased limb to press the upper end of the femur from the outside to the inside, and the right hand on the lower end of the femur to the top. Hammering the upper end of the stick to open the dislocation of the femur, the coordination of the two can achieve the ideal effect.

5.3 the restoration should be timely, preferably no more than 3 days, joint dislocation is too long, connective tissue is easy to grow in the joint cavity.

5.4 when livestock owners are tied to herding, they should tie their cattle in a relatively flat and safe place to prevent falls.
