Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Sheep nose fly is a disease caused by sheep nose fly larvae parasitic in the nasal cavity of sheep, which mainly harms sheep. The adults of sheep nose flies produce larvae directly, and the larvae change into adults by pupa. The adult sheep nose fly appears from May to September every year. After mating between male and female, the male fly dies and the female flies perch. After the larvae in the body develop, they fly and breed maggots and larvae in the nostrils of sheep. The first stage larvae attached to the nasal mucosa of sheep, and gradually migrated intranasally, until they degenerated into the second stage larvae in the nasal cavity and frontal sinus, and developed into mature third stage larvae in the spring of the second year.

The activity of the larvae stimulates the sheep to sneeze, and the mature larvae are spurted to the ground and drilled into the soil or feces to become pupae. The pupal period is 1-2 months, and then feathered into adults.

Symptoms of the sick sheep restless, shaking the head, sniffing, bowing, nasal mucosa swelling, bleeding, inflammation, movement disorders, turn around, turn the head, and finally lose appetite, fall into exhaustion and die.

First, fumigate the larvae with 40% dichlorvos emulsion aerosol and use 1 ml per cubic meter of space indoors. Method: pour dichlorvos emulsion on a hot shovel or iron, wait for the smoke to rise, and let the sick sheep suck for 10 minutes. Second, spray diseased sheep nostrils with 3% Lysol solution in summer and autumn. Third, take orally with iodide salamide at a dose of 60 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Fourth, feed the sheep with 0.1% Liuweijia in the feed at a rate of 0.3 grams per kilogram of body weight. 5. During the sheep nose fly epidemic season, apply trichlorfon ointment around the sheep's nostrils (made of 2% refined trichlorfon, mixed with waste engine oil or other oils or ointments).
