Avermectin, a natural fermentation product of Streptococcus avermis, is a highly efficient and broad-spectrum antiparasite drug, which has a strong killing effect on nematodes and mites in animals.

Etiology of ⒈

Miscalculation of dose and blind increase of dose are the main causes of avermectin poisoning. In clinical practice, pigs are generally given subcutaneous injection at a dose of 0.3 mg / kg body weight. Pigs have a strong tolerance to avermectin. It was proved that 5 times daily subcutaneous injection of avermectin for 5 days did not show typical poisoning symptoms. After 8 times injection from the sixth to the eighth day, the typical poisoning symptoms appeared on the seventh day and died on the eighth day.

Clinical symptoms and pathological changes of ⒉

Pigs poisoned by avermectin accumulation initially showed unstable gait, paralysis of tongue muscles and tongue tips protruding from the mouth. Then the pupils were dilated, the eyelids were edema, the muscles of the whole body were flabby and weak, and the forelimbs knelt down. Abdominal distension, involuntary tremor in the head, accelerated breathing and reduced heart sound. A severe coma in which the whole body reflex weakens or disappears and finally dies in a coma.

Autopsy showed gastrointestinal dyspnea, bladder paralysis, urine accumulation, pulmonary hemorrhage, pericardial effusion, cardiac edema and splenomegaly. Gastric mucosa diffuse bleeding, cecum filled with a large number of black feces, mucosal bleeding. Dura mater hemorrhage, pia mater and gyrus hemorrhage.

⒊ diagnosis

According to the history of overuse of avermectin, and combined with symptoms and lesions, a diagnosis can be made.
