The hybrid combination number was 9232. The F1 generation was planted in 1993, and the southern propagation generation was carried out in winter of that year. The F3 generation was planted in 1994, and the F4 generation was selected in 1995. The code was Nen 9232-8. Nenfeng 16, a new soybean variety, was crossed sexually by Nenjiang Agricultural Research Institute of Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1992 with Nen 8422-3 as female parent and Nen 79705-16 as male parent. The variety has pointed leaves, white flowers, downy gray, sub-limited podding habits, main stem type, plant height 80~100cm. The culms are strong, the internodes are short, the pods are dense, there are more than three or four pods, the seeds are round, and the weight of 100 seeds is about 27g. Testa yellow, glossy, navel yellow. The growth period is 118-120 days, and the active accumulated temperature is 2400 ℃. The protein content is 41.19% and the fat content is 20.11%. Resistant to gray spot, preferring fat and water.

The average yield identified in the institute was 2632.6Kg/hm2, which was 14.0% higher than that of the control variety Nenfeng 14. In 1997, the average yield was 3204.8kg/hm2, which was 16.3% higher than that of the control variety Nenfeng 14. In 1998, all the four regional trials in the province increased the yield, and the average yield was 2200kg/hm2, which was 10.5% higher than that of the control variety Nenfeng 14.

The variety has a fat content of 20.11% and a protein content of 41.19%, which is a double-high variety. This year, Wuyi Village, Xinhua Township, Suihua City, introduced this variety 6000kg and registered it as a "May Day" soybean in the country, ready to export to Japan. This variety has large grains, a hundred-grain weight of about 27g and good commerciality. it is suitable for puffed food and exported to South Korea. In addition, because of its large grains, this variety is suitable for making edamame beans. The application prospect of Nenfeng 16 is very promising.
