Canine intervertebral disc disease is a sudden intervertebral disc herniation or extrusion after intervertebral disc degeneration in dogs. 3Mel 6-year-old Peking Dog and Lion Dog are easy to get, and the incidence of intervertebral disc disease in the thoracolumbar spine is more common. Intervertebral disc herniation causes compressive paralysis of the spinal cord in dogs, which is more urgent and often occurs suddenly.

Causes: due to genetic factors, puppy calcium and phosphorus malnutrition, trauma, autoimmunity, chondrodystrophy and so on, dog intervertebral disc degeneration. The main results are as follows: (1) when the intervertebral disc chondroid metaplasia, it can cause the intervertebral disc to be extruded into the spinal cord (Hansen's type I). The denatured nucleus of the disc can cause severe epidural inflammation and bleeding in the epidural space. Calcified or cartilaginous masses can be left after reconstruction and absorption. (2) if it is fibrous metaplasia of intervertebral disc, it often leads to intervertebral disc herniation (Hansen's type II), which partially oppresses the spinal cord.

Clinical symptoms: dogs can suddenly appear systemic paralysis, or hindquarters paralysis, or walk unsteadily, or unable to move. The performance is that people suddenly do not let people touch his waist or body, when people touch his body, the dog will howl, show extremely rough temperament, walk with stiff or very careful gait, and sometimes even hide under the bed out of reach. This pain occurs only when the person comes into contact with a certain part of the affected dog. If nerve compression is related to the control of the intestine and bladder, the disease also causes incontinence in dogs.

1) Cervical disc disease: neck pain, head down, neck extension, resistance to touch the neck. Neck muscle spasm. The forelimb limps with a stiff gait and a short stride. Varying degrees of tetraplegia and ataxia.

2) Thoracolumbar intervertebral disc disease (most common): low back pain is unwilling to move, arch back. When touching a dog's spine, he often feels allergic. The lesion is usually located one or two segments before the sensitive point. Varying degrees of hindlimb paraplegia and ataxia, urinary and fecal incontinence.

Treatment: the treatment result and prognosis of the disease are related to the degree to which the intervertebral disc between the spine oppresses the spinal cord angle or nerve. When the intervertebral disc is herniated, there is also an acute inflammatory reaction around it, and the surrounding tissue is bleeding and swollen, which makes the spinal cord compression more serious. At the initial stage, some anti-inflammatory and edema drugs are given to the affected dogs, and the symptoms will generally be alleviated within 3-5 days. General treatment, the need for timely pain relief, anti-inflammatory treatment, with appropriate restrictions on the activities of affected dogs, dogs with the disease must be resting for two weeks. For the treatment of the sequelae of this disease, the acupuncture therapy of traditional Chinese medicine combined with traditional Chinese medicine is more practical and effective.
