A new variety of honeysuckle for medicine and tea: Jin Cuilei Silver Cuilei Baiyun

Hunan Academy of Forestry Sciences and Longhui County Forestry Bureau jointly carried out the breeding of new varieties of honeysuckle, and the excellent variation type of honeysuckle was found for the first time in Lonicera japonica. After 8 years of breeding, two new varieties of flower bud type "Jincui Lei" and "Yincui Lei" with excellent flower quality, high yield, high content of chlorogenic acid and strong resistance were cultivated. At the same time, a new semi-flowering "Baiyun" variety with high yield and resistance to powdery mildew was selected. The remarkable characteristics of these varieties are that the surface of the flower tube is smooth and glabrous, and there are an average of 27,31 flower tubes on each pedicel, which are aggregated into umbels or clusters. The Corolla of Jincui Lei and Yincui Bud does not crack during the flowering period, and the buds are rod-shaped. The flowering period is as long as 15-25 days, which is especially beneficial to harvest and processing. It is a high-quality raw material for making honeysuckle tea. They are highly productive and have been planted for 3 to 5 years, yielding 170 to 400 kilograms of dry flowers per mu; the content of chlorogenic acid is as high as 5.83% 6.97%, which is 2-3 times that of Shandong and Henan authentic honeysuckle; the economic benefit is remarkable, and the output value per mu can reach 5000 million yuan during the high-yielding period; drought and waterlogging resistance, cold and heat resistance, barren soil resistance, good disease resistance, easy cultivation and management. The specific characteristics of each variety are as follows:

Jin Cuilei. Corolla indehiscent, glabrous, 4.0 cm long, abruptly inflated at the top of the bud; an average of 30 flowers clustered into umbels or clusters. The flower bud is in the shape of a rod without bud, the Corolla does not crack all the time, and the florescence is 15-25 days. The buds are neat, the fresh weight of thousand buds is 73.39g, the weight of dry buds is 17.62g, and the rate of dried flowers is 24.01%. The chlorogenic acid content of dried flowers is 5.92%, which is 2.06 times higher than that of Jinfeng No.1, an excellent variety of honeysuckle. After on-site acceptance by experts, in the third year of planting, the yield of fresh flowers per mu was 937.5 kg, and the yield of dried flowers was 225.1 kg, which was 130.9% higher than that of ordinary honeysuckle. After 4 ~ 5 years of planting, 250 kilograms of dried flowers can be produced per mu. Strong adaptability, tolerance to drought and waterlogging, cold and heat, and barren soil.

Silver Cuilei. The Corolla is indehiscent, glabrous, with an average length of 4.2 cm, and the top of the bud gradually expands; on average, 31 flowers synthesize umbels or clumps, the buds are rod-shaped without buds, the Corolla does not crack, and the florescence is as long as 15-25 days. The flower buds are neat, the fresh weight of thousand flower buds is 61.46g, the weight of thousand dried buds is 14.21g, the rate of dried flowers is 23.12%, and the content of chlorogenic acid in dried flowers is 5.83%, which is 2.02 times that of Jinfeng No.1, an excellent variety of honeysuckle. After on-site acceptance by experts, in the third year of planting, the yield of fresh flowers per mu was 750.0 kg, and the yield of dried flowers was 173.4 kg, which was 77.9% higher than that of ordinary honeysuckle. After 4 ~ 5 years of planting, it can produce 200 kilograms of dry flowers per mu. It has strong adaptability, drought and waterlogging resistance, cold and heat resistance, barren soil resistance and strong disease resistance.

Baiyun. Corolla semi-dehiscent, glabrous, with an average length of 3.9 cm, and an average of 27 flowers clustered into umbels or clusters. The flower tube is semi-open, the florescence is 7 to 10 days, the fresh weight of thousand buds is 58.92 grams, the weight of dry buds is 14.62 grams, the rate of dried flowers is 24.81%, and the content of chlorogenic acid in dried flowers is the highest, reaching 6.97%, which is 60.97% higher than that of ordinary honeysuckle, and is 2.42 times higher than that of Jinfeng No.1, an excellent variety of honeysuckle. After on-site acceptance by experts, in the third year of planting, the yield of fresh flowers per mu was 1068.8 kg, and the yield of dried flowers was 265.2 kg. After 4 ~ 5 years of planting, it can produce 300 kilograms and 400 kilograms of dried flowers per mu. Strong adaptability, drought and waterlogging resistance, cold and heat resistance, strong resistance to powdery mildew.
