Since the beginning of this century, rice stripe blight has continued to break out in a large area, and even led to no harvest of rice farmers. Rice stripe blight has been regarded as rice "cancer".

In the past, it has been recognized by the market as the main rice variety "Wuyujing 3" with the best taste and quality in Jiangsu Province and its surrounding areas. Because of its high infection with stripe blight, the planting area has decreased sharply in recent years. Some varieties resistant to stripe blight either have defects in high yield and stable yield, or have not been fully recognized by the market in rice quality. Rice farmers are looking forward to the renewal of new high-quality rice varieties with resistance to stripe blight.

Recently, there is good news from Yangzhou University. The research group headed by Professor Pan Xuebiao of Yangzhou University has used molecular marker technology to select a new rice variety "Wulingjing 1" with resistance to stripe leaf blight, which has greatly improved the level of disease resistance and has been demonstrated in a large area in Jiangsu Province. the effect is good. The project recently passed the approval of new crop varieties in Jiangsu Province and was evaluated as a successful example of rice molecular breeding for disease resistance in China.

This work began in 2004, Professor Pan Xuebiao, together with Jiang Qixiang, a researcher from rice and wheat breeding farm in Wujin District, Changzhou City, and seed Station of Jiangsu Province, took "Zhendao 88" as the donor parent of the stripe blight resistance gene Stvb-i. On the basis of fine mapping of the gene, the stripe resistance of "Wuyujing 3" was directionally modified by molecular marker-assisted selection and backcross breeding. In the project, bilateral molecular markers of antiviral genes were used to assist the selection of target genes, and molecular markers were used to detect the degree of restoring the genetic background of recurrent parents in backcross progenies. "Kangtiao Wuyujing 3", namely "Wulingjing 1", which maintains the high yield, stable yield and excellent eating quality of the original variety, was rapidly bred in a short period of time. This research is supported by the National Science and Technology support Program and the introduction of International Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology Program (948 Program).

In the summary of the new variety approval (identification) test of "single character change" in Jiangsu Province in 2008, it was considered that compared with "Wulingjing 3", the average disease rate of stripe blight resistance of "Wulingjing 1" was only 4.4%. It is much better than 53.2% of "Wuyujing 3", and the yield is high; experts taste rice quality, and "Wulingjing 1" also has a high score.

It is understood that the "Wulingjing No. 1" variety right application notice was issued on September 1, 2008, and Jiangsu Golden Land seed Industry Co., Ltd. has obtained the development and management right of this variety in an exclusive way. At present, this variety has been bred millions of kilograms, and the majority of rice farmers are expected to plant this new rice variety in 2010.
