Turtles in nature are relatively disease-resistant and belong to long-lived animals. it is common for turtles to live for decades and as long as one or two hundred years. In artificial feeding, due to the deterioration of water quality or lack of nutrition, it is easy to cause some bacteria to invade and furunculosis. In recent years, with the promotion of artificial turtle breeding, furunculosis is also popular, and the incidence of furunculosis is increasing year by year in some places. In the early stage of the disease, the tortoise will locally protrude a pustule under the skin, and then the pustule will slowly harden to form a protruding tumor, which can be moved by hand but hard inside. It generally occurs in the neck of the tortoise, which can cause the glans to contract and even oppress the esophagus to affect food intake and die. According to the observation of the precious animal farm in Yuanhua Town, Haining City, Zhejiang Province, the most common species of turtles are colorful turtles (Brazilian turtles), while tortoises, yellow-throated turtles and eagle-billed turtles are less common, and crocodile turtles and golden-headed turtles are rarely found. According to the author's joint observation and study with Fan Jianhua, Longlian Science and Technology Group, Yuanhua Town, Haining City, Zhejiang Province:

1. The main causes of furuncle tumor in colorful turtles.

1. Colorful turtles are lively and active, playing with each other and climbing across each other. It is very easy to rub and beat each other in sports, resulting in boil and swelling of the wound infection.

two。 The toe claws of colorful turtles are longer than other turtles, especially male turtles, sometimes several times longer than female turtles, and male turtles are active, often in and out of turtles, increasing the chance of claws scratching the skin of other turtles, causing bacterial invasion and causing boils.

3. There is a mismatch between male and female. In some farms, there are too many male turtles in the pond, beyond 2:1, and more injuries are caused by mating season. Male turtles often bite the neck of female turtles, resulting in skin trauma and subcutaneous furunculosis.

4. The water of the breeding pond is aging, black and smelly, and does not change the new water in time, which leads to the increase of the content of pathogenic bacteria and causes furunculosis and other diseases as soon as there is a chance to invade the turtle body.

II. Key points of prevention and control

1. The turtle pond is often replaced with fresh water to keep it fresh and light green. The sludge at the bottom of the pond is removed regularly and the water quality is neutralized with biological fertilizer. The ponds with small area and fast changing water bodies were oxygenated regularly to completely change the feeding conditions.

2. Disinfect the pool water with bleach regularly and sprinkle it with 1g bleach per cubic meter of water every 30 days or so (dilute first and then use).

3. Treatment. (1) penicillin was injected into the muscle of the belly nail of the turtle's hind toe at a daily dose of 150000 IU for every 500g turtle. (2) 0.25g tetracycline in feed was used for 6 days. (3) in the middle and later stage of the diseased tortoise, if the mass is obviously raised, it can be operated to extrude the pus, and then wash the wound with hydrogen peroxide, or wipe the wound with saturated potassium permanganate solution and dry for a few days. You can also apply Yunnan Baiyao to the wound and dry it for a few days.
