Last Updated: 2024/11/10, The newborn rabbits fed with full colostrum have hairless body surface, closed eyes, closed ears, poor thermoregulation and incomplete development of digestive organs, while the colostrum secreted by female rabbits 1-2 days after delivery contains a large number of antibodies and trace elements and has the effect of light diarrhea, which is beneficial to promote the growth of young rabbits and expel meconium. Therefore, if the young rabbits can eat enough colostrum and get a good night's sleep in time, their normal growth and development can be ensured. Some female rabbits, especially the first-born female rabbits, are not strong in protecting their young and do not breast-feed them after giving birth. In this case, the female rabbit should be fixed.

Therefore, if the young rabbits can eat enough colostrum and get a good night's sleep in time, their normal growth and development can be ensured. Some female rabbits, especially the first-born female rabbits, are not strong in protecting their young and do not breast-feed them after giving birth. In this case, the female rabbit should be fixed in the nest box to keep it quiet, and the baby rabbit should be placed next to the female rabbit's nipple and allowed to suck freely for 4 or 5 times a day.

Timely foster care and artificial lactation of young rabbits in the production practice, there is often a great difference in the number of female rabbits. For this reason, it is necessary to do a good job in adjusting the foster care of young rabbits. Generally speaking, the female rabbits with normal lactation can feed 6 and 8 young rabbits. The method of foster care is to take the young rabbits with similar birth date (no more than 2-3 days) from the nest box, divide the nests according to their size and physique, and then apply a few drops of the milk or urine of the female rabbits to disturb their sense of smell and prevent the female rabbits from refusing to foster and bite or kill the young rabbits. If the mother rabbit dies after birth, has no milk or suffers from breast disease and cannot be breast-fed, and there is no proper foster care for the mother rabbit, artificial feeding should be adopted. Milk, sheep's milk or condensed milk can be used instead of female rabbit colostrum. Where there are conditions, use 200ml fresh milk, add cod liver oil 3ml, salt 2g, fresh egg 1, mix well, boil and disinfect, then cool to 37 ℃ ~ 38 ℃ to breastfeed the baby rabbits. It can also be replaced by soybean milk and rice soup with proper amount of salt, and the temperature can be kept at 37 ℃ ~ 38 ℃. When feeding, you can use a glass eyedropper or syringe and let it suck freely.

After feeding in time, the young rabbits grow and develop rapidly after opening their eyes, but the breast milk has begun to decrease, which can not meet the nutritional needs of the young rabbits. Therefore, the young rabbits should be fed at the age of 16-18 days. The supplementary feed should be nutritious and digestible soybean milk, soybean dregs or chopped young grass, vegetable leaves, and so on. When replenishing food, you should feed less and more meals, 5-6 times a day. After 20 days of age, you can add appropriate amount of oatmeal, wheat bran, corn meal and a small amount of charcoal powder, vitamins, inorganic salts, garlic and onions to enhance the physique of young rabbits and reduce diseases.

The weaning rabbits have a small stomach and weak digestion, but their growth and development are fast. After 30 days of age, they can gradually change to feed and breast milk, and make preparations before weaning. Young rabbits are generally weaned at the age of 28 ~ 30 days, and the weaning method is generally one-time weaning, that is, the whole litter is separated from the mother rabbit at one time. Another way is to wean in batches. That is to say, the well-developed baby rabbits are separated from the female rabbits, and the poorly developed ones are left to be isolated after being fed in the original cage for a period of time. Both methods should pay attention to keeping the young rabbits in the original cage for a period of time, so as to keep the feed, environment and management unchanged as far as possible, so as to prevent the environmental changes after weaning from adversely affecting the young rabbits.

To do a good job of hygiene and epidemic prevention, rabbit cages, rabbit houses and appliances should often be disinfected with disinfectants, the floor should be kept clean and the rabbit house should be well ventilated. Appropriate amount of coccidial powder, chlorophenylguanidine, sulfamethazine and other drugs should be regularly added to the feed, and corresponding vaccines should be injected regularly to enhance the immunity of young rabbits.
