Popularizing No-tillage cultivation techniques of Potato in Guangxi

The on-the-spot meeting of potato industry development in winter was held in Luchuan County. The participants visited the demonstration site of no-tillage cultivation of potato covered with straw in winter in Luchuan County, and listened to the typical experience of Luchuan, Pingnan, Qinbei, Wuming and Hesheng Potato Company in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia.

The meeting pointed out that in 2007, the area of winter potato in our region will reach 130000 hectares, with a total output of 3.2 million tons; demonstrate and promote a number of new potato varieties with high quality and high yield, and strive to achieve more than 95% coverage of improved varieties; the proportion of the popularization and application of virus-free potato primary and secondary seed potatoes is more than 90%, the extension coverage rate of no-tillage cultivation techniques is more than 75%, and introduce and support a number of relevant leading enterprises. The output value per mu in the whole region has reached more than 1200 yuan. In order to accomplish the above goals and tasks, we should focus on the following aspects of work.

Strengthen leadership and clarify responsibilities. The main leaders should personally grasp it, quantify the tasks of the potato industry to people, define the responsibility to people, and assess the effectiveness of work to people.

Strengthen services and improve quality and efficiency. It is necessary to strengthen technical training for farmers, improve their ability to apply science and technology, make full use of farmers' professional associations, increase the promotion of improved varieties, and improve the arrival rate of good laws, so as to gradually realize the standardization of potato industry quality, planting standardization, and management specialization, so as to provide technical support for the sustainable development of potato industry in winter.
