Last Updated: 2024/09/19, Xianhong An and Zhihong A, two rice male sterile lines with purple leaf markers, were developed by a research group led by Liang Shirong, an excellent expert in Guangxi, and Deng Guofu, vice president of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences. On August 3, 2007, it passed the field technical appraisal organized by the Office of Guangxi crop Variety approval Committee. After strict field investigation and indoor microscopic examination, and listening to the technical report and answering questions of the research group, the expert group agreed that Xianhong An and Zhihong A had stable agronomic characters, stable sterility and flowering.

Xianhong An and Zhihong A, two rice male sterile lines with purple leaf markers, were developed by a research group led by Liang Shirong, an excellent expert in Guangxi, and Deng Guofu, vice president of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences. On August 3, 2007, it passed the field technical appraisal organized by the Office of Guangxi crop Variety approval Committee.

After strict field investigation and indoor microscopic examination, and listening to the technical report and answering questions of the research group, the expert group agreed that Xianhong An and Zhihong A had stable agronomic characters, stable sterility and good flowering habits; Xianhong A had a sterile plant rate of 100%, pollen sterility reached 99.96%, bagged self-sterility 100%, and Zhihong A sterile plant rate, pollen sterility and bagged self-sterility were all 100%. The two male sterile lines meet the standard of three-line male sterile lines and can be used in production.

The most prominent characteristics of these two male sterile lines are that the stems, sheaths and leaves of the plants are purplish red, while the grains and branches are normal green, and the combination F1 shows normal green plants, so making use of this characteristic, the mixed sterile plants and maintainer plants in hybrid F1 can be eliminated simply and effectively at seedling stage to ensure the purity of field hybrids. At the same time, the purity of hybrid F1 seeds can be identified quickly and effectively, and the complicated time-consuming identification work of planting and purity identification in different places can be avoided.

The breeding of purple marked male sterile line of rice is the first time in Guangxi, which is of great significance to ensure the safety of seeds used in agricultural production and has a broad application prospect.
