Tomato planting method and time:

Tomatoes are usually sown six to eight weeks before the last expected frost. Some people say that sowing them later is more like sowing them five weeks before the last frost, but it may work. Remember, the earlier you start, the bigger the plant will be when it is planted.

Use a seed starting mixture, such as Miracle Gro or Jiffy Mix, to start the seed. Add some mixture to the bowl and knead in some water until the mixture is saturated but not wet. The seeds are planted at a depth of about 1 stroke, 4 inches deep, with 2 seeds per cell. I broke the tip with a pencil to form a 1-beat, 4 "deep hole in the center of each cell, then put two seeds into each hole and fastened the mixture around the seeds together to cover them completely.

Keep the tray moist and warm and speed up the germination. Install cling film loosely on the top of the tray to keep the water in, but still allow air circulation. Germinating seeds do not need light. At any time in 3 to 15 days, you should start to see Miao appear. When your seedlings end and the first two leaves (cotyledons) begin to open, you need to put the seedlings in the light.

Take care of the seedlings: keep the seedlings watered, don't overwater them, but don't make them so dry. Make sure they stay within 4 inches of the growing light. You can adjust the chain of lights hanging, or you can place seedling trays on books or boxes to adjust their distance from the light. Make sure your growth lamp is set in a room that is not too hot (80 + Fahrenheit) or too cold (less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit).

For more than a month of growth, repeat the process of digging trenches for all plants so that they are at least 2 feet apart (if you plan to prune) or 3-4 feet (if you don't). When all plants are dug, water them thoroughly and add mulch as needed. Push the pile or cage into the ground and make sure you don't pierce the embedded stem.

Your tomato planting site should receive at least 6 hours of sunshine every day to get a good yield. I can only get five hours a day at the most, but my plants are basically produced quite well. Keep plants watered, but don't overwater them. Don't let them dry or water them inconsistently. Not enough water can lead to fruit problems, such as flowers begin to rot, and overwatering can lead to fruit cracking.

Prune your plant and clip the sucker (the branch that shoots from between each leaf and the main stem). You can let some suckers grow to get more fruit, but generally speaking, the more fruits you allow, the smaller they will be. Last year, I asked each plant to grow a sucker and each plant had two stems. As they grew up, the remaining suckers were squeezed out.

Fruit that begins to ripen within 2 to 4 months after planting. Different varieties have different DTM (days of maturity), so some will mature 70 days after transplanting, others will mature 100 days or more.
