(1) Clinical symptoms

Silver and Arctic foxes have a variety of symptoms of infectious hepatitis. When infected with the disease under natural conditions, the incubation period is 10-20 days or more, and in artificial infection, the incubation period is 5-6 days. The disease is divided into three types: acute, subacute and chronic.

Acute: the first manifestation is refusing to eat, slow to react, and the body temperature rises to 41. Above C. Vomiting, thirst increased, the course of disease 3-4 days, and finally died in a coma.

Subacute; first of all, the performance of mental depression, sick fox lying, standing unstable, gait shaking, hindlimb weakness, body temperature showed relaxation and heat. Diseased foxes lose weight quickly, with visible mucosal anemia or pallor, yellow staining, and incomplete paralysis or paralysis of the hindlimb. A few diseased foxes have unilateral or bilateral keratitis. Due to elevated body temperature, cardiovascular system disorders, heartbeats up to 100,120 beats per minute, pulse irregular, weak. The above symptoms sometimes appear and sometimes disappear. The diseased fox appears excited and suppressed alternately, living in a corner or small room in the cage, showing aggressiveness when feeding. Some diseased foxes have individual muscle spasms, excitement or depression, the course of the disease lasts as long as 1 month, and eventually dies or becomes chronic.

Chronic: most of them are found in contaminated fox farms, and a few in newly diagnosed fox farms. Diseased fox symptoms are not obvious, often loss of appetite or temporary disappearance, sometimes gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea and constipation appear alternately, progressive emaciation. There is a short-term increase in body temperature. Under the influence of adverse factors, death can be caused. In general, chronic cases can be extended to the slaughtering period.

(2) treatment methods

In the first febrile period, serum can be used for specific treatment to inhibit the reproduction and spread of the virus, but the effect is not good in the middle and later stage. In addition, gamma globulin can also provide short-term therapeutic effects.

Some people advocate injecting vitamin B12 and folic acid to treat the disease. The amount of vitamin B12 in adult foxes was 350 × 500 micrograms per head, and that of young foxes was 250 ±300 micrograms per head, while folic acid was given 0.5-0.6 mg per head for 10 days. Vaccination is the fundamental measure to prevent the disease. The Fox Encephalitis Vaccine produced by the Special products Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences can be injected once every six months with 1 ml of concentrated vaccine per head.
