Feuritar, a New Spring Potato Variety
Fowry is an early maturing and high yielding potato variety introduced from Holland. It has 60-65 days of growth, dry matter 17.7%, starch 12-14%, reducing sugar 0.003%, crude protein 1.55%, vitamin C 13.6 ml/100 g. Plant type erect, less branches, plant height of about 60 cm. Stems purple-brown, compound leaves large, green leaves, strong growth potential. Tubers long oval, large and neat, high commodity potato rate, bud eyes shallow, smooth epidermis, yellowish skin, potato flesh bright yellow. Varieties are more resistant to potato virus Y, immune to virus A and cancer, susceptible to late blight, resistant to tubers. It has the characteristics of strong growth potential, thick and luxuriant stems, large leaves and rapid expansion in early stage, and the characteristics of early tuber formation, rapid expansion and concentrated tubers. The eating quality is excellent. Our county introduced trial seeds from 2004, showing early maturity, high yield and good quality, which are widely loved by producers and consumers. Spring sowing in our county is generally sown in mid-late January, covered with plastic film, harvested in mid-May, yielding 1500-2000 kg per mu in spring and 750-1000 kg in autumn.

Cultivation techniques of Spring Potato
First, select suitable varieties: select suitable varieties according to different soil conditions and climatic characteristics. At present, the improved varieties introduced, demonstrated and popularized in our county are: Dongnong 303, Feurita and so on. It is appropriate to select the original or first-class and second-class seed potato of virus-free potato, and put an end to using commercial potato as seed potato. Second, seed potato treatment: seed potato should choose healthy, disease-free, non-damaged, smooth skin, good storage and with the characteristics of the variety, the same size, for large seed potato, usually cut a few days before sowing.

There are some tricks for efficient cultivation of spring potato.
First, soil preparation and fertilization. Autumn crops must be ploughed in deep winter after harvest, and frozen water should be watered when there is no rain in dry winter. In the coming year, 4000-5000 kg, 50kg-70kg ammonium bicarbonate and 100kg-200kg plant ash will be used as base fertilizer. The base fertilizer should be spread evenly, followed by shallow ploughing, raking and leveling. Second, hurry up the buds early. Southern Shandong should use sunny beds or plastic greenhouses to promote sprouting before and after the Spring Festival.
