Variety name: Fengyou 559

Breeding unit: Jiangsu Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Coastal areas, Rice Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Variety source: Yuefeng A × Yanhui 559

Provincial examination and approval: examination and approval by Jiangsu crop Variety approval Committee

Characteristics: this variety belongs to indica three-line hybrid rice. the average growth period of middle rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is 137.1 days, which is 1.7 days later than that of Shanyou 63. The plant height is 120.2 cm, the plant type is moderate, the tillering ability is strong, the ear grain is coordinated, and the color is good at ripening stage. The number of effective panicles per mu is 183000, the ear length is 24 cm, the total grains per panicle is 158.1, the seed setting rate is 83.4%, and the 1000-grain weight is 25.1 grams. Resistance: Rice blast 7, bacterial blight 5, brown planthopper 9. Main indicators of rice quality: head rice rate 54.2%, aspect ratio 2.8, chalky rice rate 27%, chalkiness 3.5%, gel consistency 86mm, amylose content 15.2%.

Yield performance: in 2001, participated in the regional trial of medium indica late maturity and high quality group in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the average yield per mu was 606.33 kg, which was 0.05% lower than that of Shanyou 63 (not significant). In 2002, the average yield per mu was 543.94 kg, 1.1% lower than that of Shanyou 63 (not significant). The average yield per mu in the two-year regional trial was 573.89 kg, 0.6% lower than that of Shanyou 63. In the production test in 2002, the average yield per mu was 537.4 kg, which was 3.25% lower than that of Shanyou 63.

Key points of cultivation techniques: 1, timely sowing: sowing from mid-April to early May, the sowing amount is 15 kg per mu, and the seedling age is about 35 days; 2. Reasonable close planting: general fertile fields are planted with 1.8-2.0 thousand holes per mu, 1-2 grain seedlings per hole, and 70-80 thousand basic seedlings per mu. 3. Scientific water management: drainage and drying the field in time about 20 days after planting, controlling the peak seedling no more than 250000, and finally forming 16-180000 ears, moist and raising the soil in the later stage, and running off water 5 days before harvest to ensure that the stem green seeds are yellow. 4. Pest control: pay attention to the prevention and control of rice blast, bacterial blight and rice planthopper.

Approval opinion: this variety conforms to the national rice variety approval standard and has been approved. The variety has moderate maturity, medium yield, susceptibility to rice blast, moderate susceptibility to bacterial blight and excellent rice quality. It is suitable for planting middle rice in the Yangtze River valley (except Wuling Mountain area) in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu and in the areas with light incidence of rice blast in the south of Henan Province.
