Last Updated: 2024/09/19, Interferon is a kind of protein with antiviral, anti-tumor and immunomodulatory functions induced by a variety of inducers (viruses, bacteria and macromolecules, etc.). In order to explore the therapeutic effect of interferon on porcine blue ear disease, we conducted an experiment on the efficacy of interferon combined with other drugs in the treatment of porcine blue ear disease from August to October 2006. From August to October 2006, 325 pigs with blue ear disease diagnosed by laboratory diagnosis were selected from the animal clinic of Huaian Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station.

Interferon is a kind of protein with antiviral, antitumor and immunomodulatory functions induced by various inducers (viruses, bacteria and macromolecules). In order to explore the therapeutic effect of interferon on porcine blue ear disease, we conducted a trial of interferon combined with other drugs on porcine blue ear disease from August to October 2006. The results of the trial are reported as follows.

From August to October, 2006, 325 pigs diagnosed as blue ear disease by laboratory were selected from Animal Outpatient Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station in Huaian City and randomly divided into two groups. Group A (138 heads) was treated with Cephalosporum chinense (florfenicol injection, 10 ml each, containing florfenicol 500 mg) and stilbene Group B (n = 187) received intramuscular injection of 50 000 active units/kg pig weight (5 ml/injection containing 5 million active units) for 2~3 days on the basis of the same drugs as group A. Death and recovery of pigs were recorded after administration.

After treatment, 22 pigs died in group A (138 pigs) and 9 pigs died in group B (187 pigs), the mortality rate was 15.94% and 4.81% respectively.

The results showed that interferon combined with other drugs could significantly reduce the mortality of blue-ear pigs.
