This is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain, so it is also called encephalitis. The disease mainly occurs in sheep and occasionally causes disease in goats. It occurs only in tick-infested mountain areas.

1. Pathogen

The pathogen is flavivirus. The transmission vector is tick. Ticks infected with the virus can spread the disease by biting healthy sheep. It can occasionally infect people and sheepdogs. People show high fever and acute muscle pain, but do not cause death.

two。 Symptom

Sheep: the incubation period is 1-3 weeks. After the virus invaded the blood, it caused high fever, mental fatigue, dyspnea, loss of appetite, and the body temperature reached 40-41 ℃. Several days later, the temperature dropped and the condition improved. But a week later, there were typical neurological symptoms, the sick sheep were highly excited and began to tremble, so it was also called tremor, especially in the head and neck. The body temperature rises again at this stage.

As the disease develops, it begins to jump, sometimes like a trot horse, sometimes jumping forward, lying down and kicking, leading to spasms and paralysis.

Goats: although there are no clinical cases reported, the investigation of Scottish wild goats shows that many goats have antibodies to the disease, indicating that goats may have developed the disease.

3. Prevention

⑴ focuses on controlling the harm of sheep ticks, taking regular medicine baths, burning and thoroughly cutting the pastures with serious tick activity, and has obvious preventive effect.

⑵ was injected with jumping disease vaccine to sheep in tick-infested areas, once in early spring and once in late summer.

4. Treatment

There is no good treatment. Within 48 hours after exposure to the virus, the injection of antiserum is expected to be protected, once the body temperature increases, the use of antiserum is ineffective. If there is no hindlimb paralysis, a large amount of sedative is expected to cure. But it is possible to become a drug carrier.
