Large area crimping of rice heart leaves may be related to excessive application of dichloroquinolinic acid.

Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Recently, hundreds of readers from various parts of our province have called to report the phenomenon of heart leaf curl in large areas of rice seedlings, which is more common in direct seeding rice production. A lot of readers sent in diseased plants. In general, the roots of diseased plants are relatively normal, and there are no obvious disease spots and other symptoms on the leaves. After examining the diseased plants, the relevant experts from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences concluded that the curl of rice heart leaves was not caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as viruses, but could be caused by herbicides such as 2mai 4m D and dichloroquinolinic acid, or it could be physiological.

Recently, hundreds of readers from various parts of our province have called to report the phenomenon of heart leaf curl in large areas of rice seedlings, which is more common in direct seeding rice production. A lot of readers sent in diseased plants. In general, the roots of diseased plants are relatively normal, and there are no obvious disease spots and other symptoms on the leaves. After examining the diseased plants, relevant experts from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other units concluded that the curl of rice heart leaves was not caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as viruses, but could be caused by herbicides such as 2mai 4murD and dichloroquinolinic acid, or by physiological causes.

In recent years, it has been widely found that the control effect of dichloroquinolinic acid on older barnyardgrass with more than 4 leaves is not good, and it is necessary to increase the dosage in order to achieve a better control effect. In production, the dosage of 50% dichloroquinolinic acid wettable powder per mu is generally about 50 grams. Especially in the direct seeding rice field, the older barnyardgrass is usually above the 4-leaf stage in the rice field from 2-leaf to 3-leaf stage, and it is necessary to increase the dosage of dichloroquinolinic acid in order to effectively control it. However, there is a great risk of drug damage when using dichloroquinolinic acid at high dose in rice seedling stage.

In addition, rice is flooded in many parts of our province this year, and direct seeding rice is more serious. The seedling quality of flooded rice is weak, and the root growth is poor, so the use of high dose of dichloroquinolinic acid is more prone to drug damage.

In view of a large number of rice heart leaf curling phenomenon in the current production, if the rice field has been excessively applied dichloroquinolinic acid and other herbicides before the disease, gibberellin and brassinolide can be used to alleviate the damage. Gibberellin can stimulate the growth of rice, but it has an inhibitory effect on tillers. It should be diluted 50000 times in the tillering stage, slightly higher after the tillering stage and 30000 times diluted. For the injured seedlings, it is best to pull them out and transplant them in the field to make them thinner. By strengthening the fertilizer and water management of the diseased fields, the damaged rice plants can generally resume their growth gradually after a period of time.
