Selenium deficiency is one of the common trace element deficiency in young chickens, and meat type and dual-purpose type are common. With chest and abdomen, thigh, subjaw, neck subcutaneous loose parts of serous exudation as the main feature, so it is also called exudative quality disease.

1. Lack of selenium in etiological feed is the main cause of this disease. There are obvious breed differences in the occurrence of this disease. the incidence of early fast-growing meat type and dual-purpose type chickens is much higher than that of egg breeds. The incidence of the disease is most common in 14-70-day-old chicks, and it often occurs at the same time as vitamin E deficiency, but there is no lack of separate cases.

2. At the initial stage of the onset of clinical symptoms, chickens have no obvious symptoms, and only careful feeding and management personnel can find a few chicken breasts blue and blue. With the passage of time, sick chickens with stumbling steps, fluffy feathers, lethargy, lying down, blue and purple under the chest and abdomen began to appear in the flock, and showed a trend of rapid growth. Many seriously ill chickens not only have the above changes in the chest and abdomen, but also affect the thighs, jaw and neck, in which the lower jaw becomes trochanter and swollen, and the chicken feces in this period have purulent mucus and dyspepsia. If not treated in time, the sick chicken will lie still, refuse diet and defecate green until death.

3. Anatomical and pathological changes there were serous exudates of different degrees in the chest, abdomen, thighs, jaw and neck of the dead chickens, and the exudates contained blood, among which the thoracoabdominal subcutaneous exudation was the most serious. Duodenum and jejunal mucosa congestion, bleeding, large gallbladder, full of black-green bile, other organs generally have no obvious changes.

4. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis can be made according to the characteristics of the disease, clinical symptoms and pathological changes of autopsy. Pay attention to the difference from staphylococci. Staphylococcal chicken skin ulceration, feather shedding, skin exudation, is an important difference from the disease.

5. prevention and treatment must be fed with full-price feed to feed meat-type and dual-purpose chickens. When selenium deficiency was found in chickens, the following drugs were immediately added to the feed: 100g of sodium selenite and vitamin E, 30g of Dianjing and 50g of Diansheng were added to 50kg feed. Press the three drugs into powder and mix them evenly into the feed for 5 consecutive days. At the same time, 15000 units of penicillin and 10 000 units of streptomycin were added to each chicken twice a day for 3 days.
