1 pathogens and symptoms of the disease

The pathogen of chicken pruritus is chicken knee mite, which is round or oval, about 0.3mm. This kind of insect often invades the skin along the feather and parasites on the root of the feather, causing inflammation. Lesions are more common in the back, wings, buttocks, thigh and other parts of the chicken, local itching, unfeathering, so it is called pruritus. The sick chicken pecks its feathers, causing the feathers to fall off, causing the skin to turn red, forming naked spots on the skin and feeling pustules when touching. The pathogen of chicken limestone leg disease is mutant knee mite, which is about 0.5 mm long and is parasitic on the inner layer of the unfeathered phosphorus sheet below the chicken leg, causing skin inflammation. Sick chickens show a sense of sharp itching, when rubbing the affected part, it is easy to bleed or exudate, after drying up will form a layer of white crusts, like coated with a layer of lime, so it is called lime leg disease. It is difficult for sick chickens to walk, and sometimes there is a phenomenon of alternating between walking and flying. In severe cases, it affects feeding and growth.

2 treatment

Both of these diseases are transmitted through contact and mostly occur in flat and intensive conditions. Once chickens are infected with the disease, it will quickly spread to the whole flock. Therefore, if sick chickens are found, they should be isolated and treated immediately, and newly purchased chickens should be strictly inspected. The treatment of chicken knee acariasis is as follows.

Chicken pruritus: take 1 part of pine tar, 1 part of sulfur, 2 parts of soft soap, 2 parts of 0.5% alcohol, mix well and rub the affected part. It can also be treated with 10% sulfur ointment. Chicken calcareous leg disease: soak the affected part in warm water or soapy water, soften the crusts, then brush off the crusts, and apply a layer of kerosene once a day for 7 days as a course of treatment. Or apply 10% sulfur ointment after removing the crusts.
