Water is an important substance in the life activities of all animals. Pigs are no exception. All life and physiological activities in pigs, such as digestion and absorption of nutrients, excretion of waste, blood circulation, respiration and body temperature regulation, are inseparable from water. Once the pig is short of water, its life and physiological activities will be affected, resulting in poor digestion and absorption of pig feed, thickening of blood concentration, increase of body temperature and so on, resulting in lower feed reward, higher feeding cost and lower breeding benefit. At the same time, it will also hinder the growth and development of pigs and cause a variety of diseases.

I. the harm of insufficient drinking water for pigs

Six months ago, it was common for pigs to pay attention to feeding while neglecting drinking water, but they did not realize that drinking water was as important as feeding, even heavier than feeding. The main hazards of insufficient drinking water are:

1. Insufficient drinking water can lead to an increase in intestinal morbidity in pigs. The majority of rural households use the traditional one-time supply of water, regardless of the weather conditions, regardless of the type of feed, most of them do not drink water. Pigs often drink dirty water after thirst due to lack of drinking water, especially in hot summer, which directly leads to a variety of intestinal diseases in pigs. According to statistics, intestinal diseases are multiple diseases of pigs in recent years, accounting for about 76% of the total incidence of pigs, and many of these intestinal diseases are caused by lack of water and drinking dirty water.

two。 Insufficient drinking water will reduce the digestibility of pigs and increase the feeding cost. At present, especially in rural areas, pigs are mostly raised in captivity, which is only fed with water for 2-3 times a day, and the water supply is extremely insufficient. Especially for fattening pigs, farmers supplement a large amount of heat feed to fattening pigs every day, and these heat feeds need to absorb a lot of water before they can be digested, absorbed and transported by pigs, and a series of physiological activities such as metabolite removal also need sufficient water. After only feeding 2-3 times a day, the farmers put the pigsty in a small enclosure, resulting in intestinal dryness and heat, weak intestinal peristalsis, incomplete absorption of nutrients, gradual reduction of daily food intake, reduced digestibility, hindered growth and development, and so on. A sampling survey of 100 pigs raised by 20 pig farmers by relevant departments showed that after one hour of feeding, 98 pigs were thirsty and in urgent need of water, accounting for 98% of the total number of spot checks. At the same time, pigs fed with fat and concentrate feed have a deep degree of thirst and drink a lot of water.

Second, strengthen the drinking water management of pigs.

To strengthen the drinking water management of pigs, to supply adequate drinking water according to the physiological characteristics of pigs, to meet the water needs of growth and development, especially for fattening pigs, water management should be strengthened. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Set up a drinking sink. In order to meet the drinking water needs of pigs and avoid all the disadvantages caused by insufficient drinking water, pig farmers should drink water to pigs at least 4-5 times a day. It is best to set up a special drinking tank in the pig house or activity field to allow pigs to drink water freely to meet the water needs of pig growth and development.

two。 Drink water according to the physiological characteristics of pigs. According to the data, pigs need 2-5 kg of water for every 1 kg of dry feed. The amount of water consumed by pigs is slightly lower in winter, 2-4 kg for every 1 kg of dry feed, 8 kg for 1 kg of dry feed in spring and autumn, and 10 kg for 1 kg of dry feed in summer. Lactation sows need more water. Therefore, no matter feeding compound feed or mixed feed or simple feed, pig farmers should meet the basic physiological needs of pig drinking water, and it is best to feed concentrate feed with some green and succulent green feed at the same time.
