Tea variety regionalization

Tea areas in China are widely distributed, ranging from 18 °to 38 °N and 94 °to 122 °E. The vertical distribution ranges from the highest to the mountains at 2600m above sea level and the lowest to the low hills only a few meters above sea level. The genetic characteristics of tea varieties and the latitude zonality of the region make the tea and quality style appear certain zonality. In the southern tropics or subtropics, it is suitable for the growth and production of tree-type large-leaf tea varieties.

In the southern tropics or subtropics, it is suitable for the growth of tree-type large-leaf tea varieties, suitable for the production of black tea, and high content of polyphenols closely related to the quality of black tea; in the middle subtropics, it is suitable for the growth of small tree or shrub tea varieties, suitable for the production of oolong tea, green tea and black tea; in the north subtropics, it is suitable for the growth of shrub and small-leaf tea varieties and suitable for the production of green tea.

South China tea area: located in Dazhang River and Yanshi River in Fujian Province, Meijiang and Lianjiang in Guangdong Province, Dangjiang and Hongshui River in Guangxi, Nanpanjiang, Wuliangshan and Baoshan Yingjiang in Yunnan Province. Varieties are mainly tree-type large leaves, suitable for the production of black tea, oolong tea, Pu'er tea and so on. The varieties and strains popularized by regionalization are Mengku big leaf species, Menghai big leaf species, Fengqing species, Hainan big leaves, Lingyun white hair species, Phoenix daffodils, Yinghong No.1, etc.; Tieguanyin, Benshan, Huangdan, hairy crab, big leaf Oolong, Phoenix daffodils, etc., and Yunnan big leaf tea varieties of Pu'er tea.

Southwest tea area: located in the south of Micang Mountain and Daba Mountain, north of Hongshui River, Nanpanjiang River and Yingjiang River, Shennongjia, Wushan, Fangdou Mountain, west of Wuling Mountain, east of Dadu River. Suitable for the production of black tea, green tea, tuo tea, edge tea and so on. The varieties and strains popularized by regionalization are Yunnan big-leaf tea varieties for black tea, Chongqing loquat Nanjiang big-leaf species, Yunlianzao Baijian, Meitan moss tea, Qianmei 419, 701, Shuyong 1 and so on. Fuding Dabai Tea and Kunming Shilixiang are used to make green tea. Meitan moss tea, Yunlian early Baijian, Nanjiang big leaf tea, Qianmei 601 and so on.

Jiangnan tea area: located in the south of the Yangtze River, north of Dazhang River, Yanshi River, Meijiang River and Lianjiang River. Tea varieties are mainly shrub varieties, suitable for the production of oolong tea, green tea, white tea, black tea and special famous tea and scented tea. The tea varieties and strains popularized by regionalization are made of Fuding Dabai Tea, Shanghai State species, Yukeng species, Lentinus edodes Liaobaihao, Huangshan species, Wuyuan species, Qimen No. 3, No. 7, Xiangbo Green, Dajianye and Longjing No. 43; domesticated Yunnan Daye species, Zhenghe Dabai Tea, Daye Yunfeng, Chrysanthemum Spring, Kumquat, etc., are used to make Gongfu black tea. Oolong tea is made of daffodils, cinnamon, etc.; White tea is the government and Dabai tea, Fuding Dabai tea and so on.

Jiangbei Tea area: located in the north of the Yangtze River, south of Qinling and Huaihe River, east of Yihe River in Shandong Province. The distribution of varieties is mainly shrub-type middle and small leaf species with strong cold resistance, and tea is green tea. The varieties and strains popularized are Qimen species, Jinzhai Swallow River species, Shucheng species, Ziyang species, Xinyang species and Baimao Tea, etc.
