Feizixiao litchi is an early-maturing variety which is easy to bloom but difficult to set fruit. This variety has a large number of flowers, consumes a lot of nutrients, early flowers and trees with a large number of flowers, let it naturally draw buds, then there is often the phenomenon of "happy flowers, worried pistachios". Since the late 1990s, Feizixiao litchi has adopted the method of "one wipe, two thinning and three short cuts" in production to postpone flowering and reduce the amount of flowers, so that Feizixiao litchi can have a bumper harvest in general years, but its precocious characteristics have been greatly reduced. and the results are unstable in the event of bad weather during flowering and young fruit development. In addition, due to the postponement of flowering, the fruit is too small and the fruit color becomes worse, so it is difficult to meet the requirements of export.

Therefore, the research group of "early ripening and High yield cultivation techniques of Feizixiao Litchi", which is composed of Maoming Fruit Bureau and Maoming Fruit Society, according to the characteristics of Feizixiao litchi with developed main root, large root system, strong growth, multiple flowering, large amount of flowers, high fertilizer and water consumption, concentrated nutrition supply to blossom and fruit, regulate the best growth environment, advance flowering, and make use of the first batch of flowers. As a result, it not only effectively solved the problem of "more flowers and less fruit" of Feizixiao litchi, improved the high and stable yield performance of the fruit, but also promoted the early ripening of fruit, enhanced the advantage of early ripening and won the market.

With the application of new technology, fruit growers can significantly improve their production efficiency. According to the analysis of the sampling survey data of plant yield for three consecutive years from 2004 to 2006, the average annual plant yield by using this technique was 25.59-48.47 kg, an increase of 17.63%-28.07% over the control. The first batch of flowers and fruits accounted for 70% to 80%, 40% more than the trees under ordinary management. The fruit of the first batch of flowers also matured 3-5 days earlier. Compared with the delayed management, the fruit ripening time was 7-10 days earlier and the fruit price was increased by 2-4 yuan per kilogram.

Experts from the appraisal committee believe that the popularization and application of this technology can promote the transformation of oversized medium-ripe litchi in Maoming, optimize the variety structure of litchi, and reduce the pressure of centralized listing.
