Broom peach originated in the Edo period in Japan. The broom peach was first recorded in the famous Japanese horticultural monograph "the broomstick of the Flower bed" in 1695. Tower-shaped peaches have also been recorded in the famous Book of Young Horticultural plants published in Taiwan.

Since the 1980s, Japan began to use the ancient broom peach as its parents to cultivate a series of pure colors such as pink, red and white. "Shoushou" in Japanese means the appearance of "broom". It includes four varieties: 'Zhaoshou Red', 'Zhaoshou Bai', 'Zhaoshou Peach' and 'Zhaoshou Ji'. The latter two are both pink, but there are some differences in flower color and flower density. The above four broom peach varieties were successfully introduced and planted in Beijing Botanical Garden in 1998, which is the first time that broom peach, a special type of peach blossom, has settled in China.

The United States used Japanese broom peach as its parent and bred a series of 'Collins' peach blossom varieties at the end of 1990s. In architecture, Corinthian refers to an ancient Roman column that stands tall and upright. The broom peaches in the Collins series include not only green leaves, but also two new varieties with purplish red leaves, 'Corinthian Powder' and 'Collins Rose'. At present, the Beijing Botanical Garden has been successfully introduced.
