It is native to Brabant region of Belgium. From 1919 to 1920, local pigs were crossbred with French Beyeux pigs near Brabant, Belgium, and then introduced into the blood of British Tamworth pigs. It was recognized by European countries in 1955 and was a more popular pig breed in Europe in recent ten years.

Physique and appearance: the body is square, wide and short, the limbs are short and the bones are thin, and the muscles are particularly developed. The coat is gray, sandwiched with black patches and some red hairs. The ears are medium-sized and lean forward.

Production performance: the average litter size is 9.7 and the backfat is thin. According to reports, the lean percentage of 90kg live weight carcass is as high as 66.9%.

This breed was introduced into pure breeding and expansion in 1994. Because of its high carcass lean percentage, it is a good terminal parent pig in the hybrid system. The growth rate of this pig breed slows down significantly and consumes a lot of feed after 90kg, so it belongs to stress-sensitive pig breed. It is best to use it to cross with Duroc pig or Hampshire pig, F1 generation boar as the terminal male parent, which can not only improve the lean percentage, but also prevent the emergence of PSE pork.
