Light pruning and Deep pruning of mature Tea trees
light pruning
(1)Light pruning: The purpose of light pruning is to promote tea bud germination and growth, improve production density, and enhance tea growth. It is an essential technical measure to create and cultivate good picking surfaces. The degree of light pruning is to cut off 3-5 cm of branches and leaves on the canopy surface, or to cut off the autumn shoots of the previous year, leaving summer shoots. The medium and small leaf tea plants should be lightly pruned, and the canopy surface should be cut into arc shape, which can increase the width of picking width and improve yield. Green, mature tea trees, light pruning can be carried out once a year or every other year, each time in the original cut mouth increased by 2-3 cm.
(2)Deep pruning: After years of picking and light pruning, tea trees will form dense and thin branches on the picking surface, which is often called "chicken claw branches", and the yield and quality of tea will gradually decline. In order to renew the picking surface of tea tree, deep pruning technology can be adopted to cut off the dense and thin "chicken claw branch" layer, so that tea tree can sprout new branches again, improve the germination ability of tea tree and prolong the high and stable yield life of tea tree. Deep pruning should cut off the crown surface of 1o 15 cm branches, too shallow can not achieve the purpose of renewing the picking surface. After deep pruning of tea trees, still use annual or young pruning, appropriate to leave new leaves, re-raise picking surface.

3. Re-pruning and mowing of senescent tea trees For senescent tea trees, high yield and high quality can be achieved by re-pruning and mowing, re-cultivating crown and rejuvenating tree vigor.
(1)Heavy pruning: heavy pruning objects are semi-senescent and premature senescence tea trees. Heavy pruning degree should be controlled properly, too light effect is not significant, too heavy recovery is slow, affecting yield. Generally more than 80 cm of tea trees, stay high to master 35-40 cm, some low tea trees, to cut off the original tree height 1/2 is appropriate. The tea tree after heavy pruning should be horizontal. The pruning period is better before spring tea, which is conducive to the restoration of tree vigor. For example, in order to collect some high-grade tea during spring tea and increase economic benefits, it can also be pruned after spring tea.
(2)mowing: mowing serves the same purpose as heavy pruning: it is a more radical pruning technique for tree crowns, and mowing is used on extremely aged tea trees to regenerate them into new crowns. However, the tea garden after mowing usually has some influence on the yield in a short time, and the influence degree is related to the cultivation and management level of the tea garden foundation and after transformation. It is not uncommon to see that the output of the second year after transformation exceeds the original level, and the output of the second year after transformation exceeds the original level. The mowing height of aging tea garden is generally 5 cm from the ground. The mowing period is the same as heavy pruning. The mowing tools can be selected from mowing shears or mowing machines. The cut should be smooth and slightly inclined. Tea tree pruning needs to have other technical measures to achieve remarkable results, such as adding d fertilizer and water management, implementing reasonable picking according to tree conditions, and doing a good job in controlling tea plant diseases and insect pests, etc., which are extremely important.

Periodic pruning of adult tea trees
In order to maintain the exuberant growth of the tea tree, maintain the good population structure of the crown for a long time, facilitate the operation and management, and prolong the high yield life of the tea tree, it must be regulated by annual pruning in addition to strengthening the fertilizer management. The main purpose is to flatten the tree crown, to make the germination position relatively consistent, to adjust the number and weight of buds, to control the tree height, to stimulate the germination of round tea, and to improve the quality of fresh leaves. The depth of light pruning should be determined according to tea variety, tree age, climatic conditions, management level of tea garden and tree potential. The strong pruning of the tree should be shallow, as long as it is cut off by 3 ~

Total developmental cycle of tea plant
The whole life period of tea tree is from seed germination to senescence and death. According to the growth and development characteristics of tea plant, it can be divided into four biological age periods, namely: seedling stage, juvenile stage, adult stage and aging period. Seedling stage: from seed germination, seedling unearthed to the formation of standing bud at the end of the first growth, it is the seedling stage. Generally speaking, the seeds began to germinate in March of that year and lasted for about 4-5 months until July. Attention should be paid to keeping the soil loose and moist during the seedling stage, so that enough air can be obtained for seed germination.
