Last Updated: 2024/09/19, After the summer solstice, garlic that enters the dormant period is extremely sensitive to the environment (temperature, humidity), and it is easy to rot and deteriorate if it is slightly careless. Now several garlic preservation techniques are introduced as follows: First, chaff mixed storage preservation. First spread a layer of chaff about 20 cm thick at the bottom of the storage box (or basket), and then spread a layer of chaff according to the method of stacking a layer of garlic (height of 2~3 garlic is appropriate). Stack the dried garlic layer by layer. When the accumulation reaches 40~50 mm at the mouth of the storage container, cover it with chaff to make the garlic completely covered. After the Summer Solstice, the garlic, which entered the dormant period, was extremely sensitive to the environment (temperature and humidity). It was a little careless and was prone to decay. In this paper, several fresh-keeping techniques of garlic by native method are introduced as follows:

First, the bran skin is mixed and kept fresh. First spread a layer of bran skin about 20 cm thick at the bottom of the storage box (or basket), and then pile up the dried garlic layer by layer according to the method of stacking a layer of garlic (with a height of 2 to 3 heads of garlic). When it is accumulated to 40-50 mm at the mouth of the storage container, the garlic is covered with bran skin so that the garlic is completely covered. this method mainly uses the insulation properties of the bran to maintain a relatively stable temperature and humidity. The garlic is stored under the condition of micro-vacuum seal.

Second, the mat is hoarded and kept fresh. Select the site with high topography, dry soil and good drainage performance. Put a wooden board on the ground, spread straw on it, and then use straw curtains (or wicker or locust sticks) to weave a round hoard of about 100 centimeters in diameter and 150 centimeters high (each hoarding can store 800-1000 kilograms of garlic), put the harvested and dried garlic into the hoarding, surround the hoarding with a mat, tie it vertically and horizontally with a rope, and seal it tightly to prevent the sun and rain. At the initial stage of storage, the storage is poured every 2 to 3 days, the moisture in the storage is discharged in time, and the rotten garlic is removed.

Third, the earth pit is buried and kept fresh. You can choose to dig a 30cm-40cm deep pit from the wind to the sun (the length of the pit depends on the storage capacity). After digging the pit, pour the dried garlic into the pit in time (the thickness of the garlic in the pit is about 15cm 20cm), cover it with 1520cm thick soil, then water the soil until saturated, and then cover it tightly with plastic film. According to the above method, the garlic will not deteriorate until the Qingming Festival in the following year.
