[Basic information] The College of Crop Science of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University cooperated with the seed station of Fujian Province to improve the quality of three-line sterile lines and breed high-quality sterile lines T78A. T You 7889, a hybrid combination bred with Zaohui 89, has strong heterosis and excellent rice quality. It is the winning combination in the bidding meeting of early rice quality in Fujian Province in 2001.
The maintainer lines Longtepu B, Digu B and Zhenshan 97B with complementary characters were used to breed high-quality maintainer lines, and then high-quality sterile lines were bred by test crossing and backcrossing with Zhenshan 97A. In spring 1992, a single cross combination Longtepu B/Digu B was made in Fuzhou, and the F1 hybrid was planted in autumn. From several generations of multiple cross, the male sterile line T78A with regular agronomic characters, excellent rice quality, good outcrossing characteristics and stable sterility was bred by crossing with Zhenshan 97A. The CMS line was identified by Science and Technology Department of Fujian Province in July 2000.
[Characteristics] T You 7889 polished rice is transparent, chalky and has good quality. The milled rice rate of rice planted in Fujian in early season was determined by Rice Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of Ministry of Agriculture. 4 indexes of brown rice rate (80.9%), head milled rice rate (58.2%), grain length (6.1mm), aspect ratio (2.7), chalkiness (3.8%), transparency (2) and gel consistency (50.3%) reached the first grade standard of high quality rice issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. After tasting, palatability is good. It is the winning combination in the 2000 Fujian Province early rice quality rice bidding meeting, and has been funded by major agricultural science and technology projects in Fujian Province. It is being rapidly popularized and applied.
T You 7889 was tested in the early season of 1998 by the Crop Science College of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. Its yield was 6.39 t/hm2, ranking first among the 8 tested combinations and increasing by 1.23% compared with Weiyou 77. In the early season of 1999, the yield of Weiyou 77 in Jinshan, Loutou and Minhou County of Fuzhou was increased by 3.6%~11.8% compared with the control.
T You 7889 was tested in Fujian Province in 1999. The average yield of T You 7889 was 6.56 t/hm2, ranking the first place. Compared with CK 78130, T You 7889 increased by 7.12% and reached the extremely significant level. In the early season of 2000, the average yield was 6.88 t/hm ~ 2, 8.61% higher than that of the control 78130, which reached the extremely significant level and ranked second. In 2000, T you 7889 was tested in the early maturing group of late-cypress in southern China. The average yield was 6.9 Ot/hm2, which was 3.04% higher than that of control Shanyou 64, reaching significant level.
In early season of 2000, T You 7889 participated in production demonstration in Fujian Province ahead of schedule. It was planted in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Putian, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan, Sanming, Nanping and Ningde 9 demonstration sites with an average yield of 7.07 t/hm2. In 7 demonstration sites with Weiyou 77 as control, Tyou 7889 increased yield by 10.24% on average.
T You 7889 is about 95cm tall, compact in plant type, erect in leaves, good in stem elasticity and strong in lodging resistance. Green branches and wax culms in late stage, good color transformation. The tillering ability is medium, the average effective panicle is 3.3 million panicles/hm ~ 2, panicle length is 21~22cm, grain number per panicle is about 115, seed setting rate is 80%, 1000-grain weight is about 25g, yield is more than 6.75 t/km ~ 2.
Tyou 7889 was planted as early rice in Fujian Province. Its green stage was about 129 days, 1~ 2 days longer than Weiyou 77 and equivalent to Weiyou 89. In 2000,T You 7889 had a total growth period of 115.7 days, which was 1.2 days earlier than the control Shanyou 64.
In the identification of rice blast nursery in Shanghang, Fujian Province in 1999,T You 7889 had panicle neck blast grade 1 and incidence 3%(control Weiyou 64 had panicle neck blast grade 7 and incidence 35%). In 1999,T You 7889 was evaluated as moderately resistant to rice blast in the early rice regional test in Fujian Province. The leaf blast resistance index and panicle neck blast resistance index of T You 7889 were 71.0% and 72.2% respectively. No bacterial stripe disease and bacterial blight were found in many years of trial planting.

[Region and technology] For early rice planting in Fujian, sowing can be done in the first and middle of March, seedling age should not be too long, and 25~28 days is appropriate. 300kg/hm2 was suitable for seeding.
T You 7889 had average tillering ability and should be planted with proper density. The planting size of T You 7889 was 17cm×20cm. 2 grain seedlings were planted in the hole, and 750 000 ~ 900 000 seedlings were planted per hm2.
T you 7889 is more tolerant to fertilizer, so it should be applied with sufficient basal fertilizer and early tillering fertilizer. Shallow water promotes tillering, timely toasts the field, controls invalid tillering, enhances the root system vigor, enhances the tillering rate.
CMS line T78A has black and purple stigma, high exsertion rate, good flowering habit, high seed yield and similar growth period to V20A. In North Fujian, the optimum sowing period of female parent T78A was 63 days, that of male parent Zaohui 89 was 80 days, and that of parents was 18 days.
Due to the short growth period and small growth of female parent, female parent should cultivate strong seedlings, short seedling age, and insert basic seedlings to ensure more effective panicles and improve seed production.
