Two kinds of crocodile turtles introduced from the United States in China in 1996, one small crocodile turtle and the other large crocodile turtle are famous for their high reproduction rate, fast growth, high meat yield and fresh meat taste. At present, it has been favored by the majority of farmers and loved by diners, and feed has been promoted in many areas with considerable economic benefits. However, under the condition of artificial high-density feeding, the same kind of fighting and attacking those who are close to each other are caused by its nature, environment, feed, mating and other reasons, resulting in unnecessary losses. The author has tried to raise these two kinds of crocodile turtles since 1996, and summed up some experiences in preventing them from killing each other in the practice of breeding, domestication and breeding, which are introduced later.

I. proper matching of male and female

Dragon crocodile turtles, like Roosters, have the habit of fighting each other, and the female turtles are warm, but this habit can also be seen. The ratio of male and female turtles in the artificial breeding pond should be 1: 1, 2: 3. As soon as there are many male turtles, they are bound to fight each other because of mating. Male and female turtles can also be raised in separate ponds, merged in the estrous mating season, and reared in separate ponds after the end of the mating period. This will reduce fighting.

Second, do not introduce wild turtles

Animals can become tame after several generations of domestication, and like lions, tiger bears, crocodile turtles can also be domesticated. Wild crocodile turtles are ferocious and wild, often raiding nearby people and animals. Training and domestication takes more than two or three generations to see the effect. In addition, wild crocodile turtles are used to living in a large environment, have the habit of climbing hundreds of meters when laying eggs, and do not lay eggs in artificial ponds. In addition, some "breeding farms" in the border areas of Guangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan are peddling turtles and other animals as artificially domesticated animals at low prices. These smuggled turtles are even more ferocious, and what is more serious is that they carry sources of international quarantine bacteria, which can lead to human and animal infections, which are difficult to cure, and the consequences are very terrible.

Third, set up bait tables at multiple points

If the area of the bait table in the turtle pond is small, the turtles gather together to compete for food and bite, and when it is serious, the head, neck, legs and tail are disabled, so the bait table can be set up in several places. Feeding the necessary bait in three batches in the morning, noon and afternoon every day can reduce the competition for food and make each turtle eat until it is full. The amount of food eaten in summer is the largest, and the food thrown is eaten within 2 hours. Feed nutrition content should be comprehensive, not monotonous, conditional should be more animal feed. It is also necessary to have as much space as possible in the breeding pool, to keep the environment quiet, and to prevent excessive interference from strangers.

4. Enter the pool with the same batch of turtles at the same time

Generally speaking, the phenomenon of fighting with each other seldom occurs in the same batch of turtles, because they already know each other. In the introduction, it should be noted that the size of the body should be basically the same, such as a wide gap in size, especially when the male tortoise is too big to cause a struggle. Like turtles that grow up in batches, they are slightly small and have some fights. All turtles in a pond have to enter the pool at the same time, so that they are faced with a new environment, adapt and grow together, so as to prevent the phenomenon that "the advanced mountain gate is bigger" and fight less.

Practice has proved that where the above work is done well in management, the killing of crocodile turtles is greatly reduced, and the survival rate can reach more than 98%.
