The most commonly used methods for estrus identification of sheep are external observation and ram estrus test. But its accuracy is poor and the operation is inconvenient. This paper introduces the application of vasectomy test method of ram.

1 equipment, drugs and articles

2% procaine hydrochloride, bromogeramine, No. 6 sutures, sutures, routine surgical instruments, razor holders (blades), towels, soap, gauze, 5% iodine, 75% alcohol and saline.

2 disinfection and Baoding

The right side of Baoding is selected, and the left hindlimb is drawn and fixed forward to fully expose the surgical part. After shearing, rinse with clean water, then rinse with 0.1% bromogeramine and apply iodine and 75% alcohol. Finally, cover with a scarf. The operator's arm was disinfected with 0.1% bromogeramine twice.

3Anesthesia

2% procaine hydrochloride 6mL was injected into each spermatic cord by intraspermatic nerve conduction anesthesia.

4 vas deferens ligation

The scrotal skin was cut in the upper middle of the front of the scrotum, the incision was about 5cm, the subcutaneous tissue and scrotal sheath were bluntly separated, the right index finger and middle finger were extended into the incision, one side of the spermatic cord was found and pulled out of the incision, the vas deferens was found, the spermatic cord sheath was cut, the vas deferens was picked out with the handle of the knife, and the vas deferens was hooked by a finger of the left hand, and the two ends of the vas deferens were tightly ligated together by the assistant. Cut the vas deferens about 1cm from the top of the ligation, apply 5% iodine at the broken end, then find the other side of the spermatic cord and vas deferens in the same incision in the same way, ligate and cut the vas deferens. The wound was coated with penicillin 800000 IU, button suture the skin incision, and the incision was smeared with 5% iodine.

5 postoperative nursing and testing

After operation, 5% iodine was applied to the incision once a day, and stitches were removed 7 to 10 days after operation. The experimental ram with vasectomy can be used for trial after 20 days. there is no clinical difference in sexual desire and no abnormal changes in testes and scrotum between the male sheep without vasectomy and those without vasectomy. Under the condition of two trials a day, one ram treated by this method can complete the trial of 30,40 ewes.
