Last Updated: 2024/11/06, The first case of cloned Northeast Min pig using adult cells as nuclear donor was born in Harbin. Three cute black cloned pigs who were only three days old met with the media. This is also the second successful pig clone in China after China Agricultural University. According to Dr. Liu Zhonghua, director of the project and from the School of Life Sciences of Northeast Agricultural University, the difference between the cloned Northeast Min pig and the cloned pig in the past is that the adult somatic cells are used as nuclear donors, and the nuclear donor cells are taken from a 3-day-old Northeast Min pig.

The first case of cloned Northeast Min pig using adult cells as nuclear donor was born in Harbin. Three cute black cloned pigs who were only three days old met with the media. This is also the second successful pig clone in China after China Agricultural University.

According to Dr. Liu Zhonghua, director of the project and Dr. Liu Zhonghua of the School of Life Sciences of Northeast Agricultural University, the difference between the cloned Northeast Min pigs and the cloned pigs in the past is that they use adult cells as nuclear donors. The nuclear donor cells were taken from a 3-day-old Northeast Min piglet, while the cloned pig nuclear donor cells in China were taken from the fetus on the 33rd day of pregnancy. The technology is more difficult.

When studying in the United States, Liu Zhonghua participated in the study of China's first xenogeneic cloned giant panda in the womb of a cat and the first cloned cow in China. After returning to China, with the support of the special fund for talents of the "211 Project" of Northeast Agricultural University, the overseas scholar fund of the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, and the provincial and municipal science and technology departments, Liu Zhonghua and Harbin Sanyuan Animal products Industry Co., Ltd. jointly carried out the project of "Research on somatic Nuclear transfer of Northeast people Pigs". After painstaking efforts, he gave birth by caesarean section on the 12th in Harbin Sanyuan Animal Industry Co., Ltd. Three healthy cloned Northeast Min pigs were born successfully. The whole body of the three cloned piglets was black and developed normally, and the morphological characteristics were consistent with those of the donor cells.

Northeast Min pig is an excellent local pig breed distributed in northeast China, which is on the verge of extinction at present. Bao Jun, vice president of Northeast Agricultural University and an expert on animal husbandry, told reporters that the birth of the adult somatic nuclear transfer Northeast Min pig provides an effective auxiliary means for the protection of genetic resources of Northeast Min pigs and even high-quality pig breeds in other places, and also provides the most effective means for the production of high-quality transgenic livestock.
