Canine distemper is a highly contagious and fatal infectious disease caused by canine distemper virus. The disease spreads rapidly and has high mortality. It is one of the major diseases that seriously threaten the life and health of dogs.

Canine distemper can occur all the year round, especially in winter and spring. Recently, some dogs in Jinan have died of distemper. Dogs can be infected regardless of sex or age. Puppies are more sensitive than adult dogs. Purebred dogs and police dogs are more susceptible than native dogs, and the mortality rate is also higher.

The disease is mainly transmitted through contact and air, so contact with diseased dogs and inhaling droplets from the secretions of diseased dogs is the main way to infect the disease. Canine distemper virus is abundant in respiratory secretions of diseased dogs.

The disease should give priority to prevention. Treatment can only have a certain effect on early sick dogs, but it is difficult to have an effect on sick dogs with obvious clinical symptoms, so the following preventive work should be done in peacetime:

① was vaccinated regularly. At present, the canine distemper vaccine produced in China is a cell culture attenuated vaccine. The puppies were immunized for the first time at the age of 6 weeks, the second immunization at the age of 8 weeks and the third immunization at the age of 10 weeks, and should still be immunized once a year thereafter. The vaccine can be used with the six and five vaccines currently sold on the market.

Once ② finds signs of canine distemper, it should immediately isolate the sick dog and strictly prohibit contact between the sick dog and the healthy dog.

The kennels and articles used by dogs with ③ disease should be burned as much as possible, and the surrounding environment should be thoroughly disinfected with fire alkali, sodium hypooxide, permethrin and so on.

④ immediately injected canine distemper high immune serum into dogs that have not yet been infected and those threatened by the epidemic.

⑤ during the epidemic period of the disease, it is strictly forbidden to bring foreign dogs into the country, and try not to let the dogs come into contact with other dogs.
