Firefly is a kind of beneficial insect, firefly is an environmentally sensitive insect, it is very sensitive to the changes of the natural environment, now its number is getting smaller and smaller, can only be seen in a clean and pollution-free environment with mountains and water.

Zhang Mingzhong, deputy director of Dongli Forest Farm, said that since there are as many as 17 species of fireflies in the forest farm, the most are black-winged fireflies, the breeding seasons of each kind of fireflies are different, and the breeding seasons are different due to different latitudes and elevations, while there are many species of fireflies in Dongli Forest Farm. Fireflies can be seen from March to October, usually from April 15 to 25, which is the peak breeding season for fireflies last year. The income in April alone accounted for one-third of the total revenue of the forest farm that year. Affected by the warm winter this year, the forest farm estimates that the peak of the breeding season will be from 10 to 20 April. It is estimated that the number of fireflies will reach 300000.

Zhang Mingzhong said that in the early days, there were many fireflies flying in the countryside, and the Dongshi Forest Farm used the original firefly habitat for ecological restoration to create an environment suitable for larvae to forage, requiring that the slopes of the firefly habitat should not be excavated and destroyed to maintain a low level of development.

In addition, in order to make the firefly larvae grow smoothly, melons are planted in the forest farm to allow snails to reproduce for carnivorous firefly larvae to find food, and pesticides are not allowed to be sprayed around the habitat. Because firefly larvae only eat carrion of insects, snails and slugs, pesticides will not only kill these animals, but also firefly larvae that eat these things.

We should now take good care of the ecological environment so that the number of fireflies is no longer reduced, otherwise this kind of insect may disappear.
