The delivery of sows is the most important link in the breeding of pigs. it is related to the survival rate, disease resistance and growth rate of piglets, and directly affects the benefit of 227 pigs. In the process of managing the pig breeding farm for more than ten years, the author has been using manual guardianship for delivery, and summed up the following experience, and achieved high pig-raising benefits in practical application. Its experience is for your reference:

1. Prepare all the medicines and equipment needed for sows to give birth.

75% sterile alcohol and 2% iodine tincture; large sterilized nail Clippers; sterilized scissors; sterilized cotton thread tied to umbilical cord; hot water and clean towels.

2. Prepare baskets of piglets and cushion them with clean straw

The pigsty also prepares an appropriate amount of clean straw for the sow, waiting for the sow to give birth.

3. Formal delivery

3.1 when the piglets give birth, wipe the blood and dirt in the mouth and nose of the piglets with a clean towel immediately.

3.2 tie the umbilical cord with sterilized cotton thread, break the umbilical cord and disinfect it, and then put it in the basket.

3.3 wash the sows' breasts with warm water, and then put the treated piglets on the belly of the sows so that the piglets can eat colostrum.

3.4 one piglet was produced, one piglet was treated, and the piglet was immediately fed with colostrum. After all the piglets were produced, the horse teeth of all piglets were cut off.

4. Benefits of manual delivery

4.1 assist sows in giving birth. When the litter strength of the sow is insufficient, the midwife can press the abdomen of the sow when the sow is retracted, so as to increase the pressure of the sow, help the sow to give birth and prevent the piglet from suffocating and dying in the birth canal.

4.2 piglets can be saved in time when they fake death. When the piglets are not breathing and the heart is still beating (sometimes only the umbilical cord is beating), this is a false death phenomenon that can be saved. Just gently and rhythmically press the piglet's chest to resume breathing and save the piglet.

4.3 some piglets are still wrapped in placenta when they give birth. If there is no one to guard the delivery, the piglets will suffocate and die. The placenta wrapped in piglets will be torn off in time to save the piglets.

4.4 severing, disinfecting and ligating the umbilical cord of piglets can reduce infection and umbilical hernia.

4.5 the removal of horse teeth can reduce the bite of sows' breasts during lactation and reduce the incidence of mastitis.

4.6 eating colostrum in time can not only make piglets full at the end of sows, but also make piglets have the strength to run around and reduce the probability of pressing or killing piglets. More importantly, colostrum greatly enhances the disease resistance of piglets and improves the survival rate.
