High benefit of interplanting with Cortex moutan and Gastrodia elata
Cortex moutan (root bark of tree peony) and Gastrodia elata are valuable traditional Chinese medicine. Interplanting Gastrodia elata in moutan field is a new cultivation model with high yield and high efficiency, which is worth popularizing to medicine farmers in the planting areas of traditional Chinese medicine. The most remarkable characteristics of interplanting Gastrodia elata in moutan land are: first, it makes full use of the land; second, the two are complementary; third, it avoids the trouble of weeding frequently. The cultivation methods are introduced as follows:
First, planting peony
1. Site selection: the peony land of interplanting Gastrodia elata requires that the soil be fertile and deep, with a little slope as the best.
2. Selection of seedlings: large seedlings are the best, the big seedlings germinate quickly and the plants are strong, and the leaves of the plants will cover the rows after one year of planting, which provides the necessary shading conditions for the cultivation of Gastrodia elata. White peony is the best variety, because white peony is taller and its leaves are longer than red peony.
3. Planting: the effect of flat planting is the best. On the whole plot, the planting pit should be dug first. The length of the pit depends on the length of the seedling, the width is 25 cm, and the depth of the pit is 15 cm. Put the seedlings flat in the pit. Put 2 seedlings in the pit, 20 cm apart from the seedlings, then press the roots of the seedlings tightly with moist fertilizer soil, and then fill the pit with fine fertilizer soil. When filling the soil, 3 buds should be left exposed to facilitate germination. After planting, it is necessary to pour enough fixed root water, and cover with crop straw or leaves to preserve soil moisture, and when the earth warms up, the mulch can be removed. This kind of cultivation, the general survival rate is more than 95%. At the same time, it is best to choose the north-south direction between the rows when planting. Generally, the line spacing is 80 cm and the plant spacing is 50 cm. The suitable cultivation time is from autumn defoliation to early spring of the following year.
Second, interplanting Gastrodia elata
1. Interplanting time: interplanting Gastrodia elata in moutan should be carried out from late autumn to early spring, which is not only the dormancy period of peony, but also the harvest time and the best planting period.
2. Interplanting method: the moutan plot of interplanting Gastrodia elata should be planted with peony for more than one year. First of all, we should prepare Armillaria mellea and Gastrodia elata seeds, as well as enough leaves to be used as fillers and coverings. Then it was planted according to the conventional planting method of Gastrodia elata. When planting, first sprinkle a layer of leaves between the rows of the moutan land, with a thickness of 5-10 cm, and then put Armillaria mellea material on the leaves, put the fungus material into a "work" shape, and according to the length of the fungus material, put a seed at a distance of 8-10 cm, the seed should be close to the mouth of the fish scale, then fill the gap between the fungus wood with leaves, and cover it with leaves 20 cm thick. According to the shading of peony leaves, the leaves are covered with broad-leaved branches and watered once, so that the covered leaves can only be planted in one layer. It should be noted that when covering the leaves, the peony plant can not be covered.
3. Strengthen management and protection: once Gastrodia elata is planted, it should be protected around the interplanting plot to prevent livestock and poultry from entering the ground. In the season of less rain and high temperature, it can be properly watered to resist drought and cool down. After the harvest of Gastrodia elata at the end of autumn, the rotten leaves of cultivated Gastrodia elata can be cultured at the base of the peony plant. In this way, it can be interplanted continuously for 3-4 years until the moutan bark is dug and processed.

What is the effect of low temperature on Gastrodia elata in winter
The tuber of Gastrodia elata was buried in the ground and overwintered in dormancy, and the stable low temperature was 0-5 ℃. However, if the temperature fluctuates frequently in winter, the temperature difference varies greatly, and it is warm and cold at first, Gastrodia elata is vulnerable to freezing damage. Therefore, overwintering Gastrodia elata should pay special attention to cold protection and heat preservation, especially box planting Gastrodia elata, should be strictly covered with heat preservation to prevent frost damage. However, Gastrodia elata has a certain low temperature cycle, which requires a proper stable low temperature in winter, otherwise it is not conducive to its germination.
