Osteochondrosis is a disease characterized by osteonecrosis and bone dysplasia in young dogs at the stage of growth and development. Such as shoulder osteochondrosis, elbow osteochondrosis, pecking process separation, knee joint separation osteomalacia.
[etiology]
The reason is not clear. It is generally believed that the direct cause is circulatory disturbance or excessive traction and compression trauma. Endocrine disorders, malnutrition and genetic factors are also related to the occurrence of the disease.
[symptoms]
Osteochondrosis of shoulder joint is more common in large dogs, especially in 4-8-month-old male dogs. Claudication occurs suddenly and aggravates with exercise, and the affected limb is stiff after rest. Palpation of the shoulder or abduction exercise, the sick dog showed pain, "click" sound and twist pronunciation could be heard, and the shoulder muscles atrophied in the later stage.
Osteochondrosis and pecking dissociation of humeral condyle mostly occur in large breeds of dogs aged 4 ~ 5 months, with mild claudication of forelimbs and stiff gait in the first few minutes after rest. The forelimbs are slightly abduction, the elbows are bent close to the chest, and the joint capsule is dilated.
Dissociated osteochondrosis of the knee joint shows difficulty in the ground and shows the "foot-like" step of abnormal joint development. Osteoarthropathy was formed in the later stage.
[treatment]
Once the occurrence of bone and joint pain, the use of drugs and physiotherapy is not effective, generally using surgical treatment.
