Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Porcine lice disease is an in vitro parasitic disease caused by pig liver lice parasitic in the coat of the body surface. Although it can not cause pig death, it has a considerable impact on the growth and development of pigs, especially on sub-pigs. The development cycle of pig lice is short and spreads rapidly. after mating between male and female lice, the female louse absorbs enough blood and ovulates, laying 3-4 eggs a day. The eggs adhere to the pig coat and hatch for 12-15 days. The young lice become adult after 10-14 days, and the development cycle is 23-32 days. Porcine lice disease is an in vitro parasitic disease caused by pig liver lice parasitic in the coat of the body surface.

Piggery with poor hygiene, narrow site, dense and crowded, and poor management are most likely to be infected with this disease. Through breastfeeding, lice on sows can be transmitted to their offspring, and the disease of fattening pigs in the same circle can quickly spread to the whole herd. Clinically, sick pigs often tickle on walls and fences, resulting in body surface bleeding, mental unease, loss of appetite, malnutrition, weight loss, slow growth, especially stagnant growth and development of pigs, affecting production efficiency.

Prevention and control: spray pig body or medicine bath with 0.1% trichlorfon aqueous solution, 300 × 10-6 lindan solution, etc. The body surface of pigs should be checked frequently, especially for pigs purchased from other places, and once pig lice are found, they should be caught or killed with drugs. To do a good job in the environmental hygiene of pig houses, it is necessary to disinfect them regularly, and the feeding density should not be too high.
