According to the etiology, it can be divided into primary and secondary.

1. The cause of primary rumen distension is mainly due to the intake of a large number of easily fermented forage, such as young and succulent forage, especially leguminous forage such as Artemisia mandshurica, alfalfa, or silage, root feed, mildew feed, frozen feed and fodder with rain, dew, frost and snow. In addition, poor management, such as immediately after feeding or immediately after drinking and feeding, resulting in stomach content indigestion, can also cause the disease. Drastic changes in climate can also lead to forestomach dysfunction and lead to the occurrence of this disease. Secondary anterior gastric distension is common in the process of forestomach relaxation, traumatic reticular gastritis, esophageal infarction and tetanus.

2. Clinical symptoms often occur quickly after eating easily fermented feed, with rapid enlargement of the left abdomen, protruding fossa, tension and elasticity of pressing the abdominal wall, and percussion drum sound. Appetite, ruminating, belching stopped quickly, auscultation creeping sound disappeared or cash tone. The affected animals showed restlessness at the initial stage, reviewed the back abdomen or hind limbs and kicked the abdomen, but in the later stage, abdominal pain disappeared, dyspnea, and when severe, the mouth was opened and the tongue was stretched out to breathe. Conjunctival cyanosis, rapid heartbeat, weak pulse, venule exophthalmos. At the end of the year, he stood unsteadily, swayed, sweated all over, and finally fell to the ground and could not stand, suffocating to death. Chronic rumen distension, slow course of disease, more recurrent attacks, the affected animals show chronic dyspepsia symptoms.

The diagnosis of the disease is characterized by significant swelling of the abdominal circumference, protuberance of the left antrum, elastic pressing, drumming, and easy to be determined in combination with medical history. Secondary rumen distention should be diagnosed according to other characteristics of the primary disease.
