Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Injecting pigs is the main method to prevent and treat pig diseases. Several injection methods are usually used, such as intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection, intravenous injection, intraperitoneal injection and so on. Intramuscular injection is rich in blood vessels, and the injected solution is absorbed quickly. in addition, the distribution of sensory nerves in muscle is less, and the pain caused by intramuscular injection is less, so it is the most commonly used method of injection. The injection site is generally chosen in the muscular buttocks or neck. When injecting, first shearing, disinfecting, holding the syringe in the right hand, piercing the needle vertically. The depth depends on the size of the pig.

Injecting pigs is the main method of preventing and treating swine diseases. There are usually intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection, intravenous injection, intraperitoneal injection and other injection methods.

intramuscular injection

Muscular blood vessels are rich, the injected liquid medicine is absorbed quickly, in addition, the distribution of sensory nerves in muscle is less, causing less pain, which is the most commonly used injection method. The injection site is generally chosen in the muscular buttocks or neck. When injecting, cut the hair first, disinfect, hold the syringe in your right hand, and pierce the needle vertically. The depth can be determined according to the size of the pig, usually around 3 cm.

subcutaneous injection

The liquid medicine is injected into the loose tissue between the skin and muscle, and the injection site is generally selected at the inner thigh and the rear of the ear. During injection, disinfect the injection site, lift the skin with the thumb, index finger and middle finger of the left hand to form a triangular fold, obliquely pierce the syringe needle into the skin at the center of the fold with the right hand, form an angle of 45° with the skin, release the left hand to push the syringe, and inject the liquid medicine.

intravenous injection

It is a treatment technique in which the liquid medicine is injected directly into the blood vessel to make the liquid medicine take effect quickly. It is mainly used to rescue critically ill pigs, generally selected in the ear back, ear vein. First, wipe the big vein of the back of the ear with alcohol cotton ball to make the vein expand angrily; the assistant presses the vein at the base of the ear with fingers to make the blood vessel bulge; the injector grasps the pig ear with his left hand and punctures the needle into the blood vessel at an angle of 10 ° to 15 ° with his right hand; relax the pressure at the root of the ear, fix the needle with his left hand, push the piston with his right thumb and inject the medicine slowly, then press the needle hole tightly with alcohol cotton ball, and quickly pull out the needle to avoid hematoma.

intraperitoneal injection

That is, liquid medicine is injected into the abdominal cavity. Pigs often use this method. The injection site was 3~5 cm below the anterior pubic margin and lateral to the midline in pigs. Injection method: Large pigs often adopt lateral restraint, pinch the abdominal skin with the left hand, pierce the needle from the direction perpendicular to the abdominal wall, and then inject after penetrating the peritoneum; Piglets can be raised by the breeder, and the pig's forebody can be gently clamped with both legs to restrain the pig, so that the intestinal canal moves down. The injection personnel face the pig's abdomen, pierce the needle in the direction perpendicular to the abdominal wall below the pubic edge, and then inject after penetrating the peritoneum. Injection should not be too deep or biased in front, so as not to damage internal organs, nor too much biased in the rear, so as not to damage the bladder full of urine.
