Identification skills of excellent racing pigeons
Select good racing pigeons, just like picking athletes. There are two major categories of carrier pigeon competitions in the world: one is the "evaluation race", and the other is the speed race, which is divided into short-and medium-distance, long-distance and ultra-long-distance races.
A good carrier pigeon must be of moderate size. Balance and coordination are the most important conditions for a good racing pigeon to show by its appearance, while length and weight are closely related to whole body balance and coordination. In the team of champion pigeons, there may be racing pigeons that are too big or too small, but most champion pigeons are of medium size. The length of pigeon body is relative to the width of the whole body, the length of sternum and the length of waist, abdomen and tail. Carrier pigeons with moderate sternum length and tail length are called long somatotype. The sternum is moderate, while the tail is short. The former has endurance and the latter has better explosive power, which is effective for medium-and short-distance races, but not for long-distance and ultra-long-distance races. So when people are identifying pigeons, with their own experience, when you hold a pigeon in your hand, the thumb is pressed on the back of the pigeon and the four fingers hold the pigeon's belly, which happens to be the whole of the keel and weighs it. It feels similar to or slightly lighter than the pigeon. Generally speaking, the heart-racing pigeon is of moderate size. If the abdomen is larger than the first hand, and the weight is heavier than the body size, the feather racing pigeon may be a little heavier than the earth. Of course, each person's hand size is different, so it is up to him to control it.
The ideal racing pigeon's body must be round, with an open chest, left and right wings flat on both sides, is a full sphere. The width of the front body of the racing pigeon should be the sum of the width of the shoulder blades, chest and wings, and the rear body and tail should be conical. All parts of the pigeon body must be strong, smooth all over the body, with a slightly concave abdomen and a slightly convex back, streamlined. The head is the center of intelligence, and the head and neck are also important parts that reflect the physical strength of a homing pigeon. The comprehensive standard of the head is strong, plump neck, brain and vertical structure. The neck is not too thick, not too thin, there is no groove, and the length is moderate. The combination of neck and chest tends to be flat, which is a necessary condition for good racing pigeons. The front end of the mouth should be thin, the back end should be thick, the tightness should be good, the corners of the mouth should be deep, the throat should be thick, and the edge of the trachea should be large, which is conducive to breathing and breathing during flight. Rhinoma should be white and close, preferably with a long, narrow and tight nose. Pigeon eyes swing freely, the position of eyeball growth is on the back of the head, and the center line of the corner of the mouth is almost pointing to the eyeball. A good homing pigeon's eyes should have a confident, fearless and wild performance. Pigeon eyes must be bright, dry and clean, with tight skin around the eyeballs, pupils sensitive to changes in light intensity, and very sensitive to the dynamic feelings of the outside world. An excellent homing pigeon can quickly detect the abnormal movements and sounds in the air or on the ground, gaze in both eyes and leap to fly. Eye sand should be bright in color, clear in silk grain, three-dimensional, deposited, slightly thick, the edge sand layer is highly concentrated, the iris is mixed and piled up in filamentous blocks, and the iris arrangement does not require neatness, but it should be layered. Strong bones are required. From the release point of view, only a strong, soft, firm skeletal structure, can maintain a good flying frame. Generally speaking, a good racing pigeon must have a healthy body, a strong figure and a look of intelligence, calmness and self-confidence, especially to give people a sense of balance. The male pigeon has a generous appearance, and the female pigeon has a dignified and elegant appearance. A good racing pigeon should be "calm and moving like a dragon", friendly to its master and highly vigilant to strangers. With these standards and comprehensive conditions, it is convenient for us to identify and select pigeons, and finally cultivate high-quality racing pigeons.
