Chickens hard crop disease, also known as crop obstruction, is caused by chicken crop filled with food and accumulated in the mouth of the second esophagus under the sac, so that food can not reach the glandular stomach for digestion. Adult chickens and chicks can occur, the latter more common.

I. Causes of disease. Mainly because the chicken ate a lot of feathers, rope head, dry hard indigestible feed and large pieces of hard food caused.

II. Symptoms of disease. The crop of the sick chicken is obviously enlarged, hard, depressed, eating less or stopping food. In severe cases, the sick chicken shows difficulty in breathing, the comb and meat are purple, and finally dies due to digestive and respiratory disorders.

III. Preventive measures. Strengthen feeding management, reasonably match feed, feed regularly and quantitatively, ensure sufficient drinking water, and timely remove foreign matters in the house and sports ground.

IV. Treatment methods.

① Purgative method: feed or inject 2~10 ml of edible vegetable oil into crop, and then gently massage crop from top to bottom to promote food accumulation softening and downward transmission.

② Rinsing method: When the chicken crop is not too serious, it can be washed with warm saline or cold boiled water. The method is to insert a long-mouthed spherical syringe into the pharynx from its beak, inject water directly into the crop, expand the food, gently knead the crop with your hands, mix the accumulated food and water in the crop into thin liquid, and then lift the chicken upside down, gently press the crop, so that the thin liquid is discharged from the esophagus. Repeat several times. After the crop has been emptied, administer half a tablet of oxytetracycline. Allow the chickens to rest for half an hour before starting to feed a small amount of digestible feed.

(3) Surgical operation method: that is, cutting crop and taking out hard food from it, the method is: after plucking hair and disinfection at the operation site, cutting open the upper middle part of crop, taking out the accumulated food, sewing with needle thread, disinfection or re-coating with ichthyite ointment, 2~3 days after operation, feeding easily digestible feed to promote its recovery as soon as possible.
