15 new cotton varieties examined by the State

The Ministry of Agriculture issued Announcement No.706 on August 28 last year. The new cotton varieties approved by the Fifth Meeting of the First National Crop Variety Approval Committee include:

1. Zhongzhumian 2: Approval No. 2006001. Breeding unit: Institute of Plant Protection, CAAS, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant conventional spring cotton varieties. The spring sowing period of cotton in Yellow River valley is 125 days. In the regional trial of spring cotton varieties in Yellow River region from 2004 to 2005, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 235.2 kg, 93.7 kg and 86.8 kg, respectively, which increased by 12.4%, 12.2% and 9.9% respectively compared with CK CCRI 41. It is suitable for spring sowing in cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, eastern, northern and central Shandong, eastern and central Henan, northern Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui, southern Tianjin and Shanxi, and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province.

2. Xinqiu No. 1: Guoshen Cotton 2006002. Breeding unit: Shandong Jinqiu Seed Co., Ltd., etc. The variety is a conventional transgenic insect-resistant variety, and the spring sowing growth period of cotton in the Yellow River Basin is 124 days. In the regional trial of spring cotton varieties in Yellow River Basin cotton region from 2004 to 2005, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 226.3 kg, 92.7 kg and 84.7 kg respectively, which increased by 8.1%, 17.0% and 9.1% respectively compared with CK CCRI 41. It is suitable for spring sowing in the cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, Shandong, eastern, northern and central Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui Huaihe River, Tianjin and southern Shandong, and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province.

3. Guoxinmian No. 3: Guoxinmian 2006003. Breeding unit: Guoxin Rural Technical Service Association of Hejian City, Hebei Province. It belongs to transgenic insect resistant conventional varieties. The spring sowing period of cotton in Yellow River valley is 125 days. In the regional trial of spring cotton varieties in Yellow River Basin from 2004 to 2005, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 239.7 kg, 92.5 kg and 84.9 kg respectively, which increased by 14.5%, 10.8% and 9.4% respectively compared with the control CCRI 41. Suitable for cotton planting in spring sowing in central and southern Hebei, north of Huaihe River in Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Tianjin, southern Shanxi and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi.

4. Lumianyan No. 29: Guoshen Cotton 2006004. Breeding unit: Shandong Cotton Research Center, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect resistant conventional varieties. The spring sowing period of cotton in Yellow River valley is 125 days. In the regional trial of spring cotton varieties in Yellow River Basin cotton region from 2004 to 2005, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 232.3 kg, 91.5 kg and 85 kg respectively, which increased by %, 9.6% and 9.5% respectively compared with CK CCRI 41. It is suitable for spring sowing in the cotton areas of the Yellow River Basin north of Huaihe River in central and southern Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui.

5. Jimian 958: National Examination Cotton 2006005. Breeding unit: Cotton Research Institute, Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Hebei Province, etc. In 2002~2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and pre-frost lint cotton per 667 square meters was 216.9 kg, 87.5 kg and 75.3 kg respectively. Compared with control Yumian 27, the yield increased by 10.9%, 6.3% and 2.0% respectively. It is suitable for spring sowing in cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, Shandong, eastern, northern and central Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces north of Huaihe River, southern Shanxi and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province.

6. Han 5158: State Examination Cotton 2006006. Breeding unit: Handan City Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. In 2002~2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 223.4 kg, 90.5 kg and 82.9 kg respectively. Compared with control Yumian 21, the yield increased by 14.2%, 10.0% and 12.3% respectively. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant hybrid spring cotton variety. Suitable for planting in spring in the cotton areas of the Yellow River Basin north of Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui Province, in central and southern Hebei, Shandong and central and northern Henan.

7. Hanza 98~1: Guoshen Cotton 2006007. Breeding unit: Handan City Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. In 2004~2005, we participated in the regional test of spring cotton varieties in the Yellow River Basin. The yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 251.1 kg, 102.3 kg and 96.4 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which increased by 21.7%, 24.2% and 26.2% respectively compared with the control CCRI 41. It belongs to three lines transgenic insect-resistant hybrid spring cotton varieties. Suitable for spring sowing in central and southern Hebei, Shandong, eastern, northern and central Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui Huaihe River north, Tianjin, southern Shanxi, Shaanxi Guanzhong cotton planting.

8. Guoxinmian No. 6: Guoxinmian 2006008. Breeding unit: Guoxin Rural Technical Service Association of Hejian City, Hebei Province. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant hybrid F1 variety. The spring sowing period of cotton in Yellow River valley is 126 days. In 2003~2004, we participated in the regional test of spring cotton varieties in the Yellow River Basin cotton area. The yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 274.3 kg, 89.2 kg and 81.2 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which increased by 13.4%, 15.6% and 16.0% respectively compared with the control CCRI 41. It is suitable for spring sowing in cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, eastern, northern and central Shandong, eastern and central Henan, northern Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui, southern Tianjin and Shanxi, and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province.

9. CCRI 57: National Review Cotton 2006009. Breeding unit: cotton research institute, chinese academy of agricultural sciences, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant hybrid F1 variety. The spring sowing period of cotton in Yellow River valley is 122 days. In 2004~2005, we participated in the regional test of spring cotton varieties in the Yellow River Basin cotton area. The yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 245.6 kg, 100 kg and 93.3 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which increased by 19.0%, 21.3% and 22.1% respectively compared with the control CCRI 47. It is suitable for spring sowing in cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, Shandong, eastern, northern and central Henan, Jiangsu, north of Huaihe River in Anhui, Tianjin, southern Shanxi and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi.

10. Jiza No. 1: Guoshen Cotton 2006010. Breeding unit: Cotton Research Institute, Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Hebei Province, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant hybrid F1 variety, and the whole growth period of spring sowing in cotton area of Yellow River Basin is 135 days. In 2004, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 221.1 kg, 88.2 kg and 79.7 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which was 17.5%, 14.1% and 9.5% higher than that of CK CCRI 41 respectively. It is suitable for spring sowing in cotton areas of central and southern Hebei, eastern, northern and central Shandong, northern and central Henan, northern Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui, southern Shanxi and Guanzhong Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province.

11. Hanmian 802: National Examination Cotton 2006011. Breeding unit: Handan City Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. In 2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 183.3 kg, 71.2 kg and 67.1 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which was 26.0%, 16.2% and 23.3% higher than that of control Yu 668t. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant conventional wheat intercropping spring cotton variety. Suitable for planting spring intercropping in cotton fields in the Yellow River basin north of Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, south of Hebei Province, north of Shandong Province and Henan Province.

12. Lumianyan No. 28: Guoshenmian 2006012. Breeding unit: Shandong Cotton Research Center, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect resistant conventional varieties. The whole growth period of interplanting in wheat field in yellow river valley is 138 days. In the regional trial of wheat-cotton intercropping in Yellow River region from 2002 to 2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 232.2 kg, 96.2 kg and 85.2 kg respectively, which increased by 19.0%, 15.6% and 16.2% respectively compared with control Yu 668. Suitable for planting spring intercropping in cotton fields in the Yellow River basin north of Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, south of Hebei Province, north of Shandong Province and Henan Province.

13. Lumianyan No. 27: Guoshen Cotton 2006073. Breeding unit: Shandong Cotton Research Center, etc. In 2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 164.9 kg, 67.9 kg and 64.1 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which increased by 13.8%, 10.8% and 17.8% respectively compared with the control Yu 668. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant conventional wheat intercropping spring cotton variety. Suitable for planting spring intercropping in cotton fields in the Yellow River basin north of Huaihe River in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, south of Hebei Province, north of Shandong Province and Henan Province.

14. Yu Za 35: National Examination Cotton 2006074. Breeding Unit: Cotton Oil Crops Research Institute, Henan Province Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant hybrid F1 variety. The whole growth period of interplanting in wheat field in yellow river valley is 137 days. In the regional trial of wheat-cotton intercropping in Yellow River region from 2002 to 2003, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost per 667 square meters was 235 kg, 98.9 kg and 90.2 kg respectively, which increased by 20.0%, 18.5% and 23.1% respectively compared with control Yumian 668. Suitable for planting spring intercropping in cotton fields in southern Hebei, northern Shandong, central and eastern Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui Huaihe River basins.

15. CCRI 58: National Review Cotton 2006015. Breeding Unit: Cotton Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. In the regional trial of summer cotton varieties in Yellow River Basin cotton region from 2004 to 2005, the yield of seed cotton, lint cotton and lint cotton before frost was 194.2 kg, 67.9 kg and 63.7 kg per 667 square meters respectively, which increased by 23.2%, 9.9% and 11.8% respectively compared with the control CCRI 30. It belongs to transgenic insect-resistant conventional summer cotton varieties. Suitable for summer sowing in southern Hebei, Shandong, northern Henan, central and eastern, southern Shanxi Yellow River Basin cotton planting.

The above varieties should be promoted in strict accordance with the scope permitted by the agricultural genetically modified organism safety certificate.
