Cultural Techniques of Indica Hybrid Rice Yueyou 938

Last Updated: 2024/11/08, Yueyou 938 was approved and named by Jiangsu Province in April 2000, and obtained national variety protection in May 2002. It is a three-line hybrid indica rice combination. Yueyou938 was bred by cooperation of Institute of Atomic Energy Agricultural Utilization and Institute of Grain Crops, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Yueyou 938 was bred by crossing Honglian type fine quality three-line CMS line Yuetai a with Honglian type restorer line r1005-8 in Nanjing in summer of 1993. In 1994, the combination was tested in the Grain Institute of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Yueyou 938 was approved and named by crop varieties in Jiangsu Province in April 2000 and was protected by the national variety in May 2002. it is a three-line indica hybrid rice combination.

Yueyou 938 was bred by Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences Atomic Energy Agricultural Utilization Institute and Food crop Research Institute. In the summer of 1993, Yueyou 938 was made from Honglian type high quality three-line male sterile line Yuetai an and Honglian type restorer line r1005-8 in Nanjing. In 1994, the combination conducted a plot quality comparison in the grain cropping institute of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the average yield of three times was 9.28t/hm2, which was 6.8% higher than that of Shanyou 63, which reached a significant level. In 1995, the combination carried out regional demonstration and ecological adaptation experiments at 11 sites in Jiangsu and Anhui, showing a high level of yield increase.

The yield was shown in the yield experiments at all levels in Jiangsu Province from 1996 to 1998. Yueyou 938 generally had 2.32 million ~ 2.62 million panicles per hectare, the panicle rate was about 60%, the total grains per panicle was 180,190 grains, the seed setting rate was 80%, and the 1000-grain weight was about 27 grams. From 2000 to 2001, Yueyou 938 was demonstrated and planted in 10 provinces and regions, including Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi and Sichuan, with an area close to 6700hm2 and a general yield of 9.7~10.5t/hm2. A total of 100000 hm2 was demonstrated in the above-mentioned provinces in 2002, and the unanimous response was very good. It is estimated that 270000 hm2 will be promoted in 2003.

The total leaf number of Yueyou 938 is 17018, the plant height is about 120cm, the ear length is 23.5cm to 24.5 cm, the tillering ability is moderately strong, and the early onset of Yueyou 938 is weaker than Shanyou 63 in seedling stage. The plant type is compact, the leaf is narrow and long, the leaf color is dark green, in the later growth stage, the functional leaf Qingxiu, the green branch wax stalk mature color is good. According to the quality analysis of the Rice and products Supervision and Inspection Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, all the qualities of Yueyou 938 reached the national high quality rice gb/t17891~1999 grading standard. among the 12 indexes tested, 8 reached Guoyou 1, 4 reached Guoyou 2, and the total evaluation reached Guoyou 2, especially the appearance quality and cooking quality of rice. Identified by Jiangsu Plant Protection Station in 1997, Yueyou 938 showed moderate resistance to four rice bacterial blight strains, namely ks-6-6, Zhe 173, px079 and js49-6. It was also moderately resistant to three rice blast pathogenic populations za49, ze3 and zg1 in the Yangtze River valley. In contrast, the control variety Shanyou 63 was highly susceptible to the bacterial blight strains mentioned above. It was susceptible to zg1 Magnaporthe grisea. Yueyou 938 was cultivated as a single cropping rice in Nanjing and sowed at the beginning of May. The whole growth period was 147-150 days, which was about 7 days later than that of Shanyou 63. The whole growth period of early rice in Guangzhou was 137-140 days, which was 6-8 days later than that of Shanyou 63, and that of late rice in Guangzhou was 145-147 days, which was about 5 days later than that of Shanyou 63. After years of experiments, this combination can be safely used for heading and maturation in the Yangtze River Basin, South China and other one-season medium indica rice areas suitable for planting Shanyou 63.

The high-yield cultivation technique, precision sowing, was transplanted in time from April 25 to May 5, and the seeds were soaked with chemicals. The amount of seed used in the field was 1.0~1.5kg/667m2, and the sowing amount in the seedling field was controlled according to the standard of 1-2 tillers in the seedling during transplanting. It can be raised by drought or water. The longest seedling age of dry-raised seedlings is not more than 50 days, and that of water-raised seedlings is not more than 40 days. It is best to use growth regulators such as dwarfing. The reasonable row spacing of dense plants is 0.15m × 0.21m or 0.15m × 0.24m, with 15000 ~ 17000 holes per 667m2 and 2 seedlings per hole. Pest control is generally carried out according to the routine of hybrid indica rice, but rice false smut must be controlled.
