Xieyou 136, a medium indica hybrid rice with famous and excellent varieties
Xieyou 136 is a new medium indica hybrid rice combination bred by Lixiahe Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Jiangsu Province. It has high and stable yield, about 650 kg/mu, 8% higher than Shanyou 63. The whole growth period is 145 days, the panicle grain structure is harmonious, the grain weight is relatively high, the effective panicle per mu is generally 170,000 ~ 190,000, the total grain number per panicle is 122.4~167.3, the seed setting rate is about 90%, and the 1000-grain weight is more than 30 grams. Compact plant type, strong tillering, luxuriant, strong lodging resistance, green stems and yellow seeds when mature, good maturity; blast resistance, moderate resistance to bacterial blight; excellent rice quality.
This combination was tested in provincial hybrid indica rice regional test in 1997~1998. The average yield per mu was 622.38 kg, 5.18% higher than Shanyou 63. In 1999, it took part in the provincial hybrid rice production test, and the average yield was 9.55% higher than that of Shanyou 63, which was very significant. Approved and promoted in 2000.
