Propagation methods of Ophiopogon japonicus
Ophiopogon japonicus is propagated by ramets. In April, when Ophiopogon japonicus was harvested, the clumps of Ophiopogon japonicus with strong growth, many root tubers and no diseases and insect pests were selected for seed use. Take off the tuber root, cut off the fibrous root, and then cut off the stem node of the lower part of the rhizome with a knife, leaving only 2-3 cm long stem node, with white cross-section of the rhizome, the leaves should not be scattered, and the rhizome should not be kept too long when cutting, otherwise more double stem nodes will be formed after planting, and the root tuber will grow less. In order to reduce water evaporation, the top of the leaf should be cut off, leaving only about 6 centimeters long. Peel off the individual plant, remove the old and tender seedlings, tie them into small handfuls, and then plant them. If the seedlings cannot be planted in time, the seedlings can be put into a wooden basin and soaked in water for 2 to 3 hours. after they have absorbed enough water, they are concentrated and pseudo-planted in the sandy soil, covered with soil, and sheltered from the sun, or placed in a shady place. Drenched in water once every other day, this is called raising seedlings. However, raising seedlings usually lasts for 7 to 12 days, and the long time will affect the survival.

Rice straw can be processed into silage.
The processing of fresh straw into silage that livestock like to eat is not only simple and fast, but also can save labor. The specific method is to place an extra-large nylon film bag with a thickness of 0.15 cm on the harvested rice field or threshing field; then, put fresh straw into the bag to make a haystack; and finally, fasten the mouth of the bag to prevent air from entering. After about one month, the fresh straw is fermented in a sealed plastic bag and becomes a palatable livestock feed, which can be fed to livestock instead of other silage.

Successful breeding of Restorer Lines of late Japonica Hybrid Rice in the Yangtze River Basin
Through the efforts of experts from the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the restorer lines of late japonica hybrid rice in the Yangtze River Basin-Shenhui 254 and Shenhui 1 were successfully selected and utilized. The project was awarded as the first prize for scientific and technological progress by the Shanghai Municipal Government this year. The key to the application of late japonica hybrid rice in the Yangtze River Basin is to develop excellent late japonica restorer lines. This project uses indica-japonica subspecies intermediate materials as bridge parents, introduces indica rice restoration gene into late japonica rice varieties, and aggregates excellent and good bases of several high-quality parents by polymeric hybridization and systematic selection.
