Liriodendron mandshurica
Liriodendron, also known as Liriodendron, is a deciduous tree of Liriodendron in Magnoliaceae. It is found in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan and southern Shaanxi, as well as in northern Vietnam. Widely cultivated in the south of the Yellow River, it is not only a world-famous ornamental tree species, but also a national second-class key protected plant.
Tree species characteristics Liriodendron mandshurica can be up to 40 meters high, breast diameter up to 1.7 meters, tall, strange leaf shape. Flowers green, with yellow longitudinal stripes, 9 petals, 3 rounds of arrangement. Aggregate fruit 7 to 9 cm long, winged nutlets about 6 mm long. Flowering in May and fruiting from September to October. Like warm and humid climate, grow fast in deep, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, acid and calcareous soil in plain and low hills grow well, avoid flooding, and the growth of flooded land is poor. It is resistant to sulfur dioxide and can withstand low temperature of-17 ℃. Hybrid Liriodendron is an excellent variety bred by the cross between Liriodendron chinense and Liriodendron mandshurica, and its adaptability and growth rate are better than that of Liriodendron.
According to market analysis, the main producing areas of seedlings are Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces, while southwestern Hunan and southeastern Guizhou are important seed export areas. At present, the supply of seeds and seedlings exceeds demand, the market of 1-2-year-old seedlings is not smooth, and the price drops greatly. The full crown trees with a trunk diameter of more than 8 cm sell well in the market, and the prices of seedlings with a trunk diameter of 8 cm, 12 cm, 16 cm, 18 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm and 40 cm are 40, 60, 100,150,200,600 and 1000 yuan respectively, while those with a trunk diameter of 8 to 20 cm in Hunan market are out of stock. According to the analysis of people in the industry, at present, there are plenty of seedlings with a trunk diameter of less than 8cm in various places. after three to five years of cultivation, a large number of large seedlings with a trunk diameter of more than 8cm will be available on the market, and the price will drop somewhat.
Cultivation points Liriodendron chinensis is commonly used for seed propagation, seedling breeding and afforestation. 9000 to 12000 seeds per kilogram, the seed germination rate is low, generally 5 to 10%, and the dosage is 10 to 12 kilograms per mu. The height of one-year-old seedlings is 50 to 80 cm. Small seedlings should not be kept in the nursery. Large seedlings need to be transplanted. Grafting technique is often used in the cultivation of hybrid Liriodendron mandshurica seedlings. 2-year-old seedlings of Liriodendron mandshurica are used as rootstocks with high survival rate after cutting before spreading leaves in early spring. The planting density of seedlings with a dry diameter of 8 to 16 cm per hectare was 1800 plants per hectare, that is, the row spacing was 2 × 2.5m, and the planting density of seedlings with a dry diameter of more than 18 cm was 1200 plants per hectare, that is, a row spacing of 2.5 × 3 meters. Combined with tending and management, the bud strips with a dry height of less than 2 meters should be trimmed in time to promote the straight growth of the trunk.
