A disease occurred in a large pig farm with acute conjunctivitis and diarrhea as the main symptoms of fattening pigs and sows, with an incidence of 20%, a mortality rate of 0.5% and a disease elimination rate of 1.2%. According to the clinical symptoms, pathological examination combined with medical history investigation diagnosed porcine mycotoxin poisoning, the report is as follows.

1 clinical symptoms

Fattening pigs and sows developed acute conjunctivitis, eyelid swelling, conjunctival congestion, photophobia, mucous purulent secretions, long course of disease, corneal opacity, blindness, diarrhea, and feces gradually changed from atherosclerotic to watery. Finally, thin stools with mucus and blood are excreted, and contain undigested feed. Normal body temperature, slight loss of appetite or abstinence, whole litter of diarrhea in suckling piglets, neurological symptoms such as angular arch reversal in some pigs, redness and swelling of labia and excretion of dark yellow urine in some cases. The course of disease is 10 to 15 days, the growth of adult pigs is slow, and non-milk syndrome often occurs in sows.

2 pathological changes

The whole body has pale skin, enlarged and brittle liver, uneven color, diffuse renal hemorrhage, lymph node edema, pleural and peritoneal effusion, hemorrhagic infarction of spleen, soft and light myocardium, and poor hemagglutination. There are catarrhal hemorrhagic inflammatory changes in the gastrointestinal tract, brown urine in the bladder, meningeal edema and hyperemia.

3Diagnostic

According to the investigation of medical history, the old corn supplied by the grain depot (mildewed, dried and stored for five or six years), no disease was found in piglets fed with new corn. Combined with clinical symptoms and autopsy changes, chronic mycotoxin poisoning was diagnosed.

4. Prevention and control

The diseased pigs were all fed with sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate and dysentery powder. Some severe cases could be treated with infusion, cardiotonic, detoxification and antibiotics, and the disease was effectively controlled after 7 days.
