Madumycin is a new type of special anti-coccidiosis drug, which has the characteristics of high efficiency and low price, so it is very popular. However, due to the low dosage of this drug, it is blindly increased in some professional chicken households, and poisoning often occurs. A case of adult chicken Madumycin poisoning is introduced as follows:

Morbidity

2600 laying hens raised by Wang in Seven Township, Weixian County, Hebei Province, were routinely raised and immunized according to the normal immune procedure. The survival rate was 98% when they were 103 days old, and the chickens grew well. At the age of 106 days, red thin stools were found in the feces of the flock. Without veterinarian diagnosis, they thought it was coccidiosis, so they drank with Madumycin. According to the instructions, Madumycin should add 10 liters of water per milliliter. In order to control the epidemic as soon as possible, he himself added 1 liter of water per milliliter to allow the chickens to drink freely. After two hours of drinking, about 50% of the chickens in the flock were paralyzed, soft, and did not eat or drink. Five died at that time, and more than 100 died in the evening. More than 180 died the next day, so they came to Xingtai City Veterinary Hospital for medical treatment on September 6, 2007.

Clinical symptoms

The sick chicken is depressed, without appetite and appetite, drooping wings, some crouching, landing on both knees, some with neurological symptoms, twisting neck, turning in circles or stargazing, and faeces are yellowish green and thin.

Dissection change

A total of 15 dead chickens were examined with good nutrition, slight congestion and bleeding in chest and leg muscles, food in crop, hepatomegaly, gallbladder swelling and bile, splenomegaly and coronal fat hemorrhage. there are bleeding spots in severe myocardium. Intestinal mucosa showed diffuse bleeding, glandular gastric papilla bleeding, glandular gastric nipple also had slight bleeding. The bursa of Fabricius was rarely enlarged in 5 dead chickens, but there was no bleeding and exudate.

Laboratory diagnosis

After aseptic operation, smears of heart blood, liver and spleen of diseased chickens were taken for Gram's and Wright's staining and microscopic examination, and no bacteria were found.

The liver disease materials were cultured in nutritional Agar, and no bacterial growth was found.

The results of Newcastle disease HI test showed that the average geometric value of antibody was 9.41og2, and the antibody level was not uneven.

Comprehensive diagnosis

According to the incidence, clinical symptoms, changes of autopsy and laboratory diagnosis, Madumycin poisoning was diagnosed comprehensively.

Treatment.

Immediately stop drinking water containing Madumycin, drink 5% glucose water in the whole group, add C2 vitamins per kg of water (500 mg each), and mix Baoshu poles in the feed (as described). By taking the above measures, the death rate decreased quickly, with a total death rate of 455 in 3 days, with a mortality rate of 17.5%.

Summary

This time, Madumycin poisoning in adult chickens is mainly caused by chicken farmers blindly increasing the dose, mistakenly thinking that Madumycin has no toxic side effects, and the higher the dose, the faster the coccidiosis control. Therefore, the concentration increased by 10 times, resulting in poisoning, resulting in the death of a large number of chickens. Therefore, chicken farmers should be warned that when using any drug, when they do not understand the toxic and side effects of the drug, they should use it in accordance with the instructions and do not blindly increase the dose, so as to avoid poisoning and unnecessary economic losses.

When using anti-coccidial drugs, we must grasp the dose, such as acute onset, high mortality and other phenomena, we should first consider drug poisoning, must immediately stop the drug, timely diagnosis and treatment.

When a disease occurs in chickens, it is necessary to find an experienced veterinarian in time to diagnose the cause and use the right medicine in order to control the loss to a minimum.
